Travelodge London Waterloo Hotel

Me and my boyfriend stayed for a few nights in late May, booking in advance through the website.

The hotel itself is in a pretty great location. Difficult to find at first if you're new to London, but a bit of research beforehand will help you locate the hotel a lot easier. Although it's not in the dead centre of London, the transport links are excellent and a lot of attractions such as the IMAX, Old Vic and the South Bank are within easy walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening walks through the pleasant surroundings of the hotel, and felt safe.

The reception was clean and bright, and the staff were friendly enough. Check-in machines proved useless. Our room was small and disappointing for the price, although understandable. The furniture (double bed, desk, open wardrobe & wall mounted TV) was basic, functional and well designed. The red/blue colour scheme, however, was hideous and cheap-looking. Our room had a small window overlooking the glass roof of the gym which was bizarre. It got quite hot during the night, and having the window opened meant that we were disturbed by street noise. I didn't want to linger about the window too much for fear of being seen by one of the people working out and looking like a massive creep. The WC was VERY basic (almost prison-esque), and the shower was a bit grubby. Lack of towels, too.

Thankfully, when you go to London, you don't spend much time in the room. It served well for our trip but I don't think I would return in a hurry.

A few minutes walk from Waterloo station but don`t be put off as there was little noise. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Room very comfortable. We ate here the first night as had been travelling from Scotland and to be honest were too tired to go searching elsewhere to eat. Both of us had the special offer of two meals for under a tenner including a drink. Very nice. I had asked for the garlic bread as a starter, wow there was loads, hubby had to eat some hahaha service was quick only down side was the girl brought our entire meal at once, full of apologies but we couldn't be bothered by that time to argue and just ate it.
The weather was extremely hot whilst we were there but room had free standing and desk top fans. Did help a bit but investing in air con would be adventagious to them. Breakfast both mornings was lovely a buffet style with choices to suit most people. We had a package deal of hotel and west end show very good deal if doing this way.

Booked into the hotel as was working Ride London. Reception was clean and bright, the staff were very friendly and helpful - this got the two stars. The room was clean and up to date. However stayed on the 8th floor and knew things were not going to go well when i stepped out the lift. The heat hit you in the corridor and then in the room it was even worse. Anti suicide windows only open a fraction so ventilation of the room is poor and there is not air conditioning. Result little sleep which for a working weekend was not good. A fan is provided but this just moves the hot air around the room. The cable is not long enough so you cannot place it under the slightly opend window to drag in the lovely cool air from outside. Ventilation is a real issue for this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay here during hot weather unless they do rooms with A/C.

Walking distance from Waterloo, the Old Vic, South Bank, the Design Museum - London at your door-step. We booked in advance and got 2 nights for 2 people for £91. Super value given the location, cleanliness and service. I was in two minds about writing this review ... I don't want it booked-out whenever we want to go! Would totally recommend.

Room Tip: All the rooms are really well sound-proofed, but rooms at the back are best.

Stayed her the year it opened and found it good value. This time was disappointed but it could have been the time of year. Bedroom was very small and on the 7th floor so no air. Very hot and only a small fan in the room but it served it's purpose. Breakfast was really good and good value for money.

Room Tip: In the summer months lower floors

Positives -
1) good location - only 5 mins walk from waterloo station (on the same side as on the old vic and hampton by hilton a few 100yds further down the road)
2) comfy room - nice soft bed, good clean and modern rooms. Rooms are also quiet and although oy a small window there was a fan provided.
3) breakfast at the hotel - £7.50 each but buffet breakfast and plenty of good quality items available. Reasonable price for brekkie in london too.

Negatives -
1) no luggage room - if you arrive early of leave london after check out the hotel will not allow you to leave bags. It was ok for us when we arrived, as was only 30 mind to check in but had to pay £10 late check out few to not have to cart luggage round with us. This is not ideal for London.
2) Bar - expensive and not always manned. While I was there someone asked where bar man was (sat night) to get told no one could serve as bar man was cashing up tills and they would have to wait. Not great when it's 10:40 Saturday night - night supervisor was abrupt to customer that asked to be served.
3) Addedextras - we paid for brekkie but when we went for brekkie they didn't have us down as paid. On last day when we went to room at 1 o'clock our card had been deactivated (despite us paying for late check out) and we had to go back to reception to reactivate.

Overall though good hotel and excellent value for money and would definately stay again if looking for a cheap hotel in London.

basic hotel as advertised, good location, clean and good value of money
the staff was friendly and professional i would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a budgeted hotel in London to stay near points of interests of London. No air-con but you wont need it in London any time of the summer period. Fans were small and window opened for only 5cm but good enough to provide sufficient air for a good sleep after a big walk to the sightseeing of London
