It take a lot for me to write a bad review, in fact any review. I regard restaurant reviews as often a vehicle to be anonymously spiteful, mean and petty. In this case I do so as a warning.
I took my wife to London for the weekend. It was the first time for her and I was determined to make an effort. After a long first day visiting the Tower, Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast and London Bridge we saw a show (the Commitments). Everything was great until I decided to visit La Pergola, near our hotel on the Cromwell Road. It was awful. Doors wide open, no music, tawdry and worn, my soup was cold and tasteless, my wife's seafood soup at nearly 9 pounds was old and frankly, rubbish. Her pasta was dying on the plate and cold, my steak fatty and full of gristle, covered with a mush of tomato-gluten. Vegetables cold and flaccid. A screaming kid in a corner behind us provided the cabaret as its mother ordered chips. One orange juice and one beer later - 60 pounds. No detail of prices on a bill, just a slip with 60 quid written on it. Utter rubbish. Do not touch it with a bargepole.
