Last year visited Hampton court palace but didn't have time to fit in the gardens. So decided to re visit this year to see the gardens. But instead of going by train. We decided to get the Thames River boat Cruise. From Westminster . With your travel card you get a discounted rate for your cruise ticket. We got the first boart which leaves at 11am. Information says it takes 3 hours but our trip took 4 hours. But very enjoyable. And interesting commentary. Went through some lovely parts of London I have never visited before. Scenic trip. And a lovely way to arrive at Hampton Court. You would not have time to take the river cruise and see All the palace and gardens. So the way we did was perfect. We got the train home. Very enjoyable day out.

This summer provided me with my third opportunity to travel on the river and I insist that I do it every time I go now! The first time, we traveled up the Thames to Hampton Court on a rainy day, and while the scenery was beautiful, the four hour trip had to be taken below decks looking from the windows. The second time, we determined that we would take the fast train to Hampton Court and take the boat back down the river. It was a beautiful English summer day and we sat on the deck drinking cider while we drifted by the quaint houses and villages. Going through the locks was very interesting! This year, we took the cruise from Kew back to London. It was very difficult to find the launch and no one we asked seemed to know where the pier was. If you're walking from Kew Gardens (a bit of a walk), the pier is on the right hand side of the bridge on the close bank. This trip was just as lovely - sun and cider! - but from Kew you are beyond the locks. My favorite part of coming into London is looking at the bridges, each with their own character. And nothing compares to seeing Westminster come into view as you approach the city! Best money spent!

I chose to take a trip on the Westminster to Hampton Court boat, which lasts about 3 hours; dependent on the tide. This is definitely the best way to see London, and the slow pace allows you to take in the wonderful riverside architecture. The trip is commentated upon by one of the boats crew and his knowledge of the rivers history is next to none. He does this voluntarily so make sure that you give him a large 'tip' when you dis-embark. One thing to watch is that the departure times are directly related to the tides so could vary from what's shown on their website, therefore I would suggest that you phone in advance to check before leaving home.

We spent about 3 hours on this Thames river boat, the view that you get from the boat is so much better than on foot, and at a steady pace without being pushed from pillar to post by crowds of people, extremely good value for money, with very helpful and informative crew this river boat trip is a must for London sight seeing.
