“Great tour for all”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

We had guests from China and took them to the Tower of London. We had audio guides which were in Chinese to make it more interesting and informative for our guests. They were thoroughly impressed with the history of the Tower, and the magnificence of the crown jewels. No matter how often you visit the Tower, you learn and see more each time and all the artifacts are very well exhibited with clear explanations. The Tower of London is one of the best attractions to be seen.

“Sobering reminder of human cruelty”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

By no means is the Tower of London just about torture and savagery. But these niceties feature in many of the buildings; torture instruments, the forlorn carvings by those holed up sometimes for years awaiting execution. The original block and axe on display.

And then there's the sculpture that marks the spot for those priveliged to be beheaded in relative privacy within the Tower confines. Whilst the less fortunate suffered public disembowelment and the like, some noblemen and women were despatched swiftly.

However there are glimmers of hope - those whose sentences were unexpectedly reversed, and those who held faith to the end. These historic buildings yield their stories in every stone and timber.

Particularly take time to visit the chapel in the White Tower. It is still a place of worship so don't barge through but tiptoe around and try to catch the echoes of Lady Jane Grey spending her last night alive in prayer.

Try to catch one of the tour guides. You will pick up a lot from these people who clearly enjoy relating the anecdotes with which this place abounds.

You will need at least a day. Worth every penny.

“An English Icon not entirely ruined by Unesco sanctioned information boards...yet!”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

An English icon and a place every true Englishman should journey to. The Tower needs little explanation, near enough all history of our isles gives a passing nod to this structure. Many of the foreign tourists flock to see HMs Crown Jewels, which are viewed from a bizarre conveyor belt, very generation game! Other sights include Traitors Gate,The Bloody Tower and Tower Green. A special mention must go to the lovely Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincular located within the walls. The Towers famous Ravens were great to see, sadly the other famous attraction, the Yeoman Warders, were less great. Good at controlling large and at time poorly behaved crowds but when asked politely for information the one 'Beefeater' was downright rude and needs to learn some manners. This aside the Tower is well worth it and, unlike some of my ancestors who got locked up in here, I left for the better!

Amazing in so many ways. The stories told from within these walls span a thousand years. One could spend an entire day here...

“Interesting”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

Despite innumerable trips to London, I had not visited the Tower until recently. Was pleasantly surprised actually - good collection of artifacts, nicely displayed. The artillery museum was particularly interesting. The Beefeater guided tours were rather fun. Then there are the crown jewels, you can see them from really up close.
