“I always love this place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

I stop and see something new in the BM every time I get a chance. This time I was showing around a friend from abroad, so we made sure to see all the usual highlights. He wasn't disappointed, and boggled a bit at how unfathomably old some of the things are!

The Shakespeare special exhibit was on, and while I've never gone to one of the special exhibits before, I really wanted to see this one. It was worth the £12 (£14 if you're not a student); very well put-together and informative with a lot of context for all Shakespeare's works. The final piece, bringing it up to the modern day, was a copy of the Complete Works that had made the rounds in a Cape Town prison, where Nelson Mandela and others marked off their favourite lines and verses--stunning and humbling to see what some had written.

The highlights for us were the Elgin Marbles, the Enlightenment Gallery, the Egyptian Rooms and the Lindow Man.

“Everything and more”

The Elgin marbles, Rosetta Stone and the Sphinx's beard. Walk through history on a global level. Be sure to check out the room of fakes, a family favorite.

“Egyptian section visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

We visited this museum as my ten year old daughter is mad about ancient Egypt and we were not disappointed. They had good worksheets for kids to make their visit more interesting although there were few interactive displays.
The museum is large, the central hall itself is very impressive so plan what you want to see if you don't have all day. You could easily be here all day if you try to see everything.
