“Luxurious, but tie string to your bedroom door if you want to find your way back from the spa!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

The hotel is big without being impersonal; the door "boys" are always charming and beautifully turned out, in all weathers. I'm sure the smell that wafts around the pretty girls dressed in pink suits in the reception area is from Shanghai Tang, it's very nice anyway. Getting through the check-in process is always fast and efficient and the staff are polite and very professional. The rooms are a good size, and very good if you are prepared to go over £500 per night. Breakfast is excellent, fresh and the coffee arrives hot every time. Room service is average to fast and the food is always good. There are also tea making facilities in the rooms, with a nice solid kettle and good quality teas. The televisions are huge and wifi works well and is free. Bathrooms and the bathroom bits and pieces are, as you'd expect: good nail files, shampoos, etc even including nice old-fashioned touches like good-smelling talcum powder- and the spare toothbrushes and shaving creams, which I alway appreciate! The rooms always have flowers, not overpowering but fresh, and the rooms are very clean with excellent bed linen and quality beds. The air-conditioning always works and it's too loud. Finding the spa is an exciting quest; depending on where your room is. I think I've visited the spa about 20 times and I've never got there and back smoothly! I start confidently following signs and take the lift down to the second floor, follow more signs, go down one more level and voila, the spa! But on the way back, it isn't the same thing in reverse! I always end up in a padded service lift after just a couple of doors! The way around this maze is to head for reception both ways - but then you have to shuffle through there, either damp, from swimming, or slightly sticky (from nice-smelling oils), but you will get back to your room within twenty minutes; the other option can take years! I've occasionally asked other guests who generally laugh and wish me luck! But, it's worth it, as the spa staff are lovely and very good at what they do. You ought to book in advance and make clear what you want; I have had different massages from that which I thought I'd booked, several times, so check the name of what you want, don't just rely on describing which bits you want pummelled. The price of rooms shoots up in the week and we rarely get our room upgraded during the summer or December and January, despite having stayed dozens of times over a number of years, and we book via a service that always offers it, should it be available. The bar manages to have atmosphere and good food (lovely martinis too), but is expensive, as you'd expect. The restaurants are also excellent and expensive. Overall, they pretty much do everything they can to make your stay feel luxurious and relaxing; any gripes we've had have been small (mainly along the lines of it becoming quite impersonal when busy). We sometime stay away for a bit, and decide we ought to stay somewhere that will give us change from £1,000 for a weekend in a non-suite bedroom (i.e. just a bedroom and bathroom, no extra sitting area); but we do go back, so it must be good!

Room Tip: It's quite simple; the suites are much nicer!

The Langham is a gem of a hotel, 5 star luxury with none of the snobbish attitude that sometimes goes with it In London. We stayed in a club room overlooking regent street (no noise). The club lounge was amazing, full marks to everyone involved as it was the best lounge experience we have ever had. We travelled with our 5 year old daughter and the staff pulled out all the stops to make her happy. A complimentary backpack filled with goodies and a hand written note were left in the room. They knew her name and she was welcome in the lounge at any time and always with a smile. The hotel made our one night stay so memorable, the problem was it was over too soon. We will be back, an absolute London gem and a true 5 star experience.

I spent a weekend in this hotel to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday.
We were not disappointed, we stay in London very often and this is by far our best experience and our absolute favorite hotel.
Everything from the common spaces to the service, from the room to the location, is 5 stars.
Our room was very spacious, especially for the London average, as well as the bathroom. The bed was very large and comfortable.
We had the Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court and it was fantastic, we even got a little Happy Birthday cake as surprise.
We went to the Spa too, which is very nice, big pool, sauna and jacuzzi, towels provided, very clean and big changing rooms.
All the staff was extremely kind and professional.

If I have to find downsides, one is that our room was on the 1st floor facing a wall, not great; and the Spa pool has quite a strong unpleasant smell in places, and there is no space to sit around it.

Anyway it was a very good stay and we loved this hotel, and hope to be back soon.

Room Tip: make sure your room do not face a wall!

We went to the Langham for a girlie afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed! Everything was absolutely perfect. We had the Wonderland Afternoon tea and the sandwiches and cakes all have something particular about them, making it stand out from your usual traditional afternoon tea.

The hotel itself is quite magnificent. The reception and lobby area are beautiful with wonderful flower displays. The service was fantastic with staff being extremely polite and helpful.

My only hesitation is in relation to some of the bedrooms. We were first given a room (838) which was very dated and in need of redecoration with marks all over the walls and paint peeling off the woodwork and a problematic tv. This was disappointing in light of the stunning entrance and cost of the hotel. We did however mention this and were very quickly moved to a very nice room (816) which was much more in line with expectations. As a result we would highly recommend this hotel as it is in an excellent location (5 mins from central Oxford Street), opposite the bbc and roux at the landau is onsite (which is amazing! ).

Only slight concern is certain bedrooms being dated so just be aware but the hotel was quick to rectify.

Okay, there may be other great hotels but what is so great about this one is the wonderful service. We stayed here five days and received the best service we have ever received at any hotel. The room was large and the bathroom was beautiful. The breakfast was substantial. I've never had someone pour my tea for me. Usually, coffee drinkers get that type of service. This hotel is close to all the shopping and restaurants. The BBC is right across the street. A very interesting area. There are roses everywhere in the hotel. The huge bouquets placed at the entrance are changed every four or five days. Just beautiful. This grand old hotel survived the WWll bombing and is still going strong.
