I booked this hotel 6 months in advance. I don't like contemporary hotels and wanted a beautiful original building in London.
I couldn't have chosen better ! Beautiful Victorian hotel overlooking Kensington Park ( The Thistle Kensington is totally different and above a petrol station ). This hotel is only a short bus ride or 2 stops on underground to Oxford Street.
My partner and I arrived early and was informed that our room was available immediately ! We had been upgraded to a very large beautiful suite which overlooked the park. Stunning.
We left our cases and went for a cruise on the Thames. When we arrived back at the hotel we got ready for dinner and had a look around the hotel.
You walk into a small reception by a small lounge area. With piano comfy chairs and chandeliers ( which are everywhere ). Next to this was a bar area very comfy to. This leads through to restaurant. I booked dinner for both nights.
Hotel staff were throughout our stay, the most friendly, helpful and welcoming I have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble and they are all so accommodating.
The food was great with a great choice for dinner and the full English for breakfast.
On the Saturday we visited Sherlock Holmes museum where I proposed to my now fiance by the statue at the underground. We then travelled back to Kensington Gardens where my fiancé proposed to me at the Peter Pan statue. The day was perfect sunny and warm. We walked through the park to Harrods for afternoon tea.
Dinner that night was a surprise as my fiancé had arranged for some flowers for our table and some champagne. I was speechless.
I have no idea how the hotel managed to find 6 of the most beautiful red large roses in the space of a few hours ! Lots of the hotel team came over to congratulate us on our engagement. My fiancée and I decided to give the roses to a couple of the staff all of who had made our weekend so very special.
This hotel was just everything I expected it to be and made it all so very special.
Thankyou to everyone and my husband and I will be back.
