Whats not to like: great Mayfair location across from Green Park and near Hyde Park, large stylish rooms, friendly service, free snacks/drinks in the room, free wifi, lovely Espa toiletries, spa with Ren/Elemis treatments... This boutique luxury hotel is a cut above the impersonal large chain 5 stars in London (and I've stayed in quite a few of those!).

Bought as a top secret hotel so didn't pay full price. Asked if we wanted to upgrade when we got there for either £36 or £50 wasn't sure of the difference but upgraded and had views over Green park which was lovely. Free mini bar for soft drinks and confectionary was a nice touch. Only downside when we paid bill was told it was £60.
£50+ vat. Said this isn't what the receptionist said and it was discounted to £50 but felt this should have been explained. Room small quite 60 s ish but nice enough and very central. Was going to have a drink in the bar after our day out and again very small. Breakfast expensive £25 per person. Found a nice cafe to eat for £7 near kings cross , lovely breakfast tasted delicious .

Thank you for writing us a nice review; we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us! As a boutique five star hotel, we are more intimate than palacial however with our fabulous decor, central location, award winning food and complimentary mini bars we certainly make up for it.

I have stayed at the Athenaeum a couple of times in the past few months. Most recently for a week in May 2014. The hotel is clean, friendly and very quiet. I work in London a couple times a year. My office is in Canary Wharf so I have a commute but it's an easy walk to the Green Park Station and then a jump on the Jubilee line to get there. The hotel offers my company a very competitive corporate rate for London. Coming back to a very clean, comfortable and quiet room each night is key. All the staff greeted me each day and recognized me enough to comment on my long days in the office. The day I was leaving the street was shut down due to a planned protest. No taxis or cars were allowed. The doorman called the driver of the car service, told him how to get there and walked us up the street to the nearest open intersection with all our luggage. For others he was calling taxis he had on standby who knew how to get in the back way. Amazing service! The Athenaeum will remain my London home whenever I go!

Room Tip: I didn't use the spa so can't comment but it looked quite nice. Rooms facing Picadilly wer...

We stayed in apartment 16 for 5 nights last week. Well we actually left on day 3 as it was just so unsuitable. Firstly, the hotel reception is like a youth hostel - chaotic. Although staff were pleasant, there were glaring errors - leaving us standing at reception while they answered a lengthy phone call, the waiter in the restaurant so bad we left and ate elsewhere. As for the apartment, it was NOT big enough for a family of four as we had been led to expect. The rooms are cramped and really dull, with dark furnishings - lights needed to be on all day, even when the sun was out. The kitchen was tiny and not well equipped eg. no chopping board, no dishtowel, impossible really to cook a family meal. The main bedroom was nice, apart from the filthy windows (I mean FILTHY!). The bathroom was small but nice, until I opened the window and found cigarette ends on the window ledge (they were there for the entire stay). But the absolute worst thing was the sofabed - the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on - we just could not tolerate it and left on day 3 to move to a proper hotel, the magnificent Four Seasons round the corner on Park Lane. And guess what? It was CHEAPER!!! We payed over £3,000 for 5 days in this apartment- a total rip off, and were offered no money back for early departure. Really shabby, in every sense.
There were some good points - the location is fantastic, and the street quiet. Housekeeping staff were very nice, although room wasn't made up until afternoons every day. The free fridge contents are also nice (although for 3 grand you would hope so!). And my daughter used one of the free scooters which was great.
But on the whole - you can get a lot more for your money in a proper hotel or apartment, and there are plenty around.

We were sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your apartment, but delighted that you experienced the complimentary amenities - especially all the goodies we provide for kids! Most guests adore our luxury apartments however we understand that everyone has different tastes and we are sorry that this was not to your liking. We have a range of apartments, suites and bedrooms all accredited by the AA as five star. I believe that you have been liaising with our Residency Manager and hope that everything has now been resolved.

Stayed here for 4 nights in May 2014 - easy to the tube, sights, amazing amenities in the room and spectacular breakfast spread (for a fee). All staff at the from desk went out of their way to help us and the concierge desk did too!

Nice hotel, rooms very small and breakfast/drinks very expensive but in a fantastic location. Very central so you can walk everywhere. Hotel charges £40 per day for parking- we stayed during a weekend so parked at the euro car park behind hotel for £16 for 3 days.

We stayed at The Athenaeum over the bank holiday weekend. The room was lovely with a beautiful view over Green Park. It was smart and very clean with a huge bathroom and a shower than was bigger than my entire ensuite at home. The location was very central - a short walk from the tube and very close to some good bars and restaurants (Galvin, Trader Vic's, Theo Randall) for a night out.

On the flip slide, I didn't sleep very well. I had also forgot to pack make up remover and the hotel wasn't able to provide any, despite having a spa on site. Breakfast was only OK in terms of quality.

Overall, a nice stay though.
