This hotel has just a great location, within walking distance of several tourist attractions as well the main shopping streets. We arrived late and were upgraded to a large room with a view over Green Park. The room was quiet despite overlooking a busy street. I appreciated the luxury to enjoy the free soft drinks, water, chocolates from the minibar (alcohol consumption for an extra cost) and free tea and Nespresso coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful. I also liked the convenience of the American and European electrical plugs in the room for the travelers without the UK power adapters as well as the free wifi. My only concern was concerning the breakfast which lacked the professionalism and quality of the rest of the hotel (loud and clumsy staff, poor choices of the buffet and Mayfair prices). We ended up having a delicious breakfast at a nearby coffee for a fraction of the price. The only hiccups are for the false fire alarm in the afternoon as well as the lack of warm water one morning (the latter being compensated by a personal note from the manager as well as a bottle of champagne). I will definitively come back if I can match a future visit with a good offer on the deal.

Stayed here for 1 night as we were going to see a show at a theatre. Room was superb, very spacious with lots of little extra's and great service from the staff. Breakfast was very nice too.
Hotel is in a perfect location for walking to local attractions.

Having read a few reviews on here I wasn't greatly surprised to find that the room we booked through lastminute.com was in in one of the 'houses'.

Given the good location and what we paid it was fine but the room was very small with a view of brick walls, ok for one night but it would feel claustrophobic for much longer than that.

The staff were friendly and the complementary soft drinks in the mini bar are a nice bonus.

The apartments at the Athenaeum are the best kept secret for families in London. More than enough room for a family of four and the location is perfect. Agree with the comments that Concierge Duncan is the best - he was so helpful for us! Afternoon tea is terrific and the bar atmosphere is a great way to wind down after a day's sightseeing. We will definitely return!

I rate this place about a 4.75, so it rounds up to 5 on the Tripadvisor scale.

This is a lovely hotel located centrally to a number of places to see. It is about a 5 minute walk to Buckingham Palace, 15 minutes to Trafalgar Square, and 15 minutes to Knightsbridge. The rooms are large for a hotel located in Central London (they also look a lot larger than they are due to the extensive use of mirrors) and well appointed. Staff is very good, spends time to make sure that you are well looked after, and its always nice to come back to a “welcome home” greeting when you get back to the hotel.

The hotel is a 85 GBP taxi ride from Heathrow, but you can get to it on the Piccadilly tube line that stops at Heathrow and get off at either Hyde park or Green Park stations (its between the two, and about equidistant) for about 4 GBP each. No changes required. Wish we knew about the tube on the way in.

We had a maintenance issue (no hot water) and someone came up to fix it within 2 minutes and resolved it in about 10 minutes. Later that night the General Manager sent up a very nice bottle of red wine to apologize for the inconvenience.

Plus:
- Soft drinks and snacks in the mini bar are free. They provide a generous amount of water (still and sparkling) and snacks (chips and chocolate bars), plus real milk for coffee.
- Nice sized bathroom including a bathtub for a Central London hotel. Bathtubs are Increasingly rare in hotels, and this one features a temperature setting and a “scald guard”. ESPA brand scented toiletries, slippers, robes, hairdryer
- A North American plug right beside the work desk (just one) – this means that you can plug in your computer and then charge you phone and ipad from your computer without having to find a converter plug.
- The lounge downstairs runs 24 hours, so you can get something to eat and drink no matter what time you arrive at the hotel.
- If the Spa is booked, you can have them provide services in your room instead. And the Spa services are very good.

Interesting:
- There is a “control pad” beside the bed that controls all the lighting, temperature, fan, and “do not disturb” light. Seems not to work until you realize that there is a delay between the time you hit a button and the time something actually happens.
- Wednesday cocktail hour in the afternoon for all guests. Didn’t make it to this one, so I can’t comment.
- Ordering tea in the lounge – a lot of pageantry and silverware involved for two cups of tea, well worth the try.
- Beds are very firm. I loved it, and it was perfect for my back. My other half had trouble with it, but we solved it by letting her sleep with the comforter wrapped around her from below and above.

Minus:
- Be careful when you shower as the water pressure can vary, so you can go from warm to very hot and then back to warm in seconds.
- Terrible coffee in the restaurant. Stick with the Nespresso in the room – way better coffee than the French press, smoother and not as harsh as the restaurant coffee.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a view of Green Park. I believe that it costs extra, and remember that the park sid...
