My mom and I stayed in the apartments during a recent 5-night stay in London. The staff were exceptionally friendly, always cheerful, and very helpful. For example, one evening we were invited to meet some of the staff in an informal setting with champagne and finger food. We had thought to drop in for a few minutes and ended up visiting for nearly two hours! We passed time while waiting for our airport cab chatting with the doorman. Though they wore suits and top hats, there was no stuffiness. I would highly recommend the Athenaeum, and would not hesitate to return there if I am blessed to return to London.
The breakfast each morning was excellent. We also went to the restaurant for a late dinner one evening and the food was delicious.
The Athenaeum is situated between the Green Park and Hyde Park tube stations. Our room was in the apartments, so we did not have a park view, but looked out over other roofs. Still, we spent most of our time out and about and it was usually dark by the time we returned to our room, so this wasn't as much of a factor as it might be for others.
I say that this hotel is good for airport access, whether via a cab to Paddington for the Heathrow Express or a tube ride on the Picadilly line.More
