Greenwich, a World Heritage Site, is well worth a visit. It is easy to get to via the DLR from Bank or Stratford or by riverboat. Pack a picnic lunch and eat it in Greenwich Park or overlooking the Thames. Climb up to the Royal Observatory, learn more about time keeping and Greenwich Mean Time and straddle the Prime Meridian like all the tourists do. Gaze at Christopher Wren's lovely old Royal Naval College Buildings. If you have time, visit the splendid Queens House built by Inigo Jones and visit the National Maritime Museum. Glance at the Cutty Sark. Walk under the Thames along the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and enjoy the views of Greenwich from the park on the north side of the river. A great day out.

There is a lot to do in Greenwich, and you could easily fill a day visiting the Maritime Museum, the wonderful park in which you'll find the Observatory, and the town itself. We took the river boat from near Westminster Abbey, and it was a great way to approach Greenwich (and to see a different "side" of London).

We didn't pay to go into the Observatory, but there is a meridian line just below the main one that is outside of the paid gate and you can get your photos there.

Just a short trip down the Thames to Greenwich or by the tube. It is a wonderful place to visit. Stand on the meridan line west/east. See where time starts. The Cutty Shark ship is there as well, was being remodeled last time i was there. If u like science history this is the place. Also has a nice large park to rest in as well. Good for families.
