We have stayed at this hotel several times over the past 30 years. We had not been back for at least 10 years, but I am happy to report that it is better than ever. The hotel is in an early 19th century building so do not stay here if you need air conditioning, elevators, or modern surroundings. The rooms are comfortable with openable windows, the bathrooms are updated and clean. Breakfasts are quite good and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms off the street should be quieter, since there is noise from late night revelers.

Quaint unique hotel, quiet & quick access to Tube & Trains to all sorts of places. My husband had a twin bed room with an odd motorhome style split bathroom which was very clean. Very good breakfast included. Great place for those just needing a home base in order to see all a lot of London and yet quick access to get the train to Paris.

Room Tip: Quiet rooms may not have much of a view

This hotel is great. We have stayed there twice last year and are going again this year. The location is fantastic. Just 5-10 minutes walking distance from 3 Underground stations and 2 British Rail stations. The rooms are well equipped, comfortable and quiet. A full English breakfast is served or you can choose from cereals, yoghurt and fruit, eggs any style with sausages and toast and tea or coffee. We found this sets us up well for a good day walking in London. A laundromat is just around the corner as is a supermarket and lots of small cafe's and restaurants. British Museum is an easy 5 minute walk. Run by a lovely family and very friendly staff.

I had a tiny room (single) but perfectly comfortable and nice bed and that rarity in the UK hotel provision, a really good bedside light. Everything clean and working. The stairs are steep but there is a good rail. Breakfast again very professional with the standard fry-up or items from this, cereals, fruit, yogurt and there was a bowl of real fruits. Only comment I would make is that the coffee could have been better. A nice touch was the free use of a decent computer in the lounge.

Room Tip: there are a lot of stairs to the upper floor - ask if you're not very fit

Twin room was small and separate from a tiny shower room and toilet. No washbasin in the loo so had to step out and go to shower room to wash hands. Had to place wash bags on floor as limited shelf space to put toiletries on, and no bin in shower room. Bed was comfortable, room clean, basic tea&coffee. Freeview TV with hit and miss reception. 27 rooms so potentially 50+ people staying but dining room, down twisting flight of stairs to the basement, seats maybe half that number so you we ended up having to wait for a table until free or were told we could split our party up and sit with others. Wait for service too, but food ok once arrives, albeit a bit on the cold side. No bar to relax in and the lounge was very small, perhaps seating 7-8 people, reflecting a tiny sitting room in an old house, which the hotel is. Ok if you don't intend to relax in the hotel, don't want a drink and can handle the tight, turning stairs, otherwise might be better off somewhere else.

Room Tip: ask for ground floor room when booking as otherwise lots of twisting stairs to negotiate!
