this is not a hotel. Even as a b&b I cannot understand how this gets 5 stars. It has no amenities, is very worn, dated, dusty and kitchy. More than one person has told me it is a dump and I think it is fair to say it has seen better days. Very dusty and musty and if you have any slight allegies, stay away. External renovations were not disclosed and we were choosing between this, soffitel St. James and the Ritz, so very disappointed. During this period and for 7 days, this was the most expensive of the options, but was a special trip and thought this was to be elegant and luxury accomodations so opted for what I thought was the best. due to the external renovations, opening the windows to get relief from dust was a real problem. Also, beware in that they will try to charge a 3 day penalty if you leave early. I travel to london once a month and even in London -- for nearly $600 per night -- you can find hundreds of really top hotels. this was really awful.

also, Tripadvisor really needs to move this to the B&B section -- this is not a hotel.

While the location is wonderful (relatively quiet location just off Sloan Square), the hotel is more of a B&B than a luxury hotel. The rooms are large for London standard but they lack the quality amenities and construction of a 5 star hotel. The windows are very old so if you get a room on the street side, the noise will wake you up at night. The comforters are so thin after so many years of use that I would not consider them to provide any warmth. The bathrooms are adequate but far from luxurious. Breakfast is a bit of a joke as the continental breakfast for 19.95 GBP is not much more than coffee and a dry roll. The hotel does offer free tea and champagne (Billecart-Salmon no less) every afternoon, but I still don't think this compensates for the room rate they charge. As I alluded to earlier, if you love creaky and old B&B's, this is the hotel for you. If you prefer more the style of a luxurious American hotel, this is not your type of hotel.

If you want to enjoy a holiday in Central London where you feel home away from home this is the place to go. We spent 4 nights at the Draycott Hotel in mid of July. I was attending a conference and my spouse spent the time on leisure.

As I did not want to pay the horrendous room rate of the conference hotel our travel agent recommended this hotel near to the conference venue. Even though it does not provide all the amenities you expect from a business hotel (slow internet connection; no fitness center) we will still try to stay there again even if we come again for business reasons. The service and atmosphere is very relaxed and you feel at home right from the welcome by the ever-friendly staff. They provide also High Tea in the afternoon, Champagne before dinner and Hot Coco at night.

What we liked:
- Very friendly & personalised service: they went the extra mile to fulfill our wishes.
- Location: the hotel is located in the heart of London. It takes only 3 minutes to get to the tube station (Sloane Square) and less than 15 minutes to Knightsbridge.
- Cosy, elegant & friendly room: what made the stay really special was the cosy & friendly room (we stayed in Rutherford). You felt as if you are living in a 'typical' English apartment with book shelves and antique furniture. An additional plus was the big kitchen (with a huge selection of complimentary teas) and the walk-in closet.

What we did not like:
- Very small bath room: impossible for two persons to be in it at the same time.
- Very slow Wifi Internet connection both in the room and common areas.
- Room in the basement: even though we liked the room itself we would have still preferred a room with a view.

I stay 3-4 times a year at the Draycott and they always take great care of me, and my family if they come with me. The staff is attentive, efficient and willing to go a step further. They even tracked lost bags for me from a difficult airline. The bathrooms in some of the rooms are a bit small, but the rooms are comfortable, charmingly designed and make realxtion instantly possible, just enough luxury to make you feel pampered.

I recently decided to whisk my wife away to London for a major birthday and chose the Draycott after reading previous reviews and carrying out a little independent research. All I can say is that although I had high expectations, the Draycott exceeded them.

The Hotel is in a quite side street, in the Cadogan Gardens "maze" of streets. It is about 60 seconds walk from the Kings Road and so is wonderfully located for shopping, browsing, more shopping (and all those other things that wives like to do!). You have Peter Jones round the corner, Sloane Square tube station about 3 minutes walk and plenty of taxis on hand.

The welcme when we arrived at the hotel was very warm, friendly and not at all stuffy or snobby (as you might expect from a 5 star hotel). A minor word of caution - the steps up to the entrance of the hotel are quite steep and may be an issue for someone with walking difficulties.

We were offered a glass of champage on arrival and a vry helpful porter showed us around the room and its features. We stayed in a deluxe room (Galsworthy) which overlooked the peaceful garden area behind the hotel. The room was enormous and very very comfortable. There was a sofa in front of an open gas fire which made for romantic evenings... There was a stero, dvd player and a small selection of disks.

The bathroom was surprisingly snug considering the size of the room but it did not detract from the overall impression.

The bed was big and very comfortable. My only minor gripe is that, as the hotel is effectively a few converted houses - it has floor boards rather than the concrete floors that you get in modern hotels, we did find that they creaked a little as the gusts in the room above us moved around. In fact the guests above moved around so much (and at rather a late hour) that we asked the hotel to gently mention it to these guests. I presume that they did so, as the following night there was no problem.

The hotel offers guests tea in the afternoon with home baked biscuits, a glass of champagne (Billecarte Salmon no less) after 6pm and hot chocolate later in the evening. This made a lovely change to those hotels that make you pay extra for every little thing you want/need.

The staff were very friendly and approachable and genuinely nothing felt like too much trouble.

Breakfasts were very good but the breakfast room is very small and if all quests arrive at the same time it could be interesting... so we decided to have breakfast in our room instead, which was much more relaxing! The English breakfast was very good with excellent sausages, quality bacon and black pudding. The coffee was good quality and tasted of proper coffee and not the usual watered down acorn juice that you can often get served.

I would rate the Draycott as one of the nicest and friendliest hotels that I have stayed in. It has real, honest old fashioned charm which I prefer any day to sleek, modern, shiny hotels where no-one remembers your name. It was a pleasure to stay there and we will be coming back soon.

Everything about the Draycott is brilliant! The location could not be better and the property in itself is absolutely beautiful!

The rooms are beautifully appointed and no luxury is spared. They really go out of their way to serve you with anything you need and the staff is never overbearing! Dino and his whole team really go out of their ways to make your stay more memorable. Early check ins and upgrades, all granted without even asking! Smashing! *****

Breakfast are deish with the best French Toast in Europe! Great to have in room service on those nippy English mornings!

Thanks everyone for a really enjoyable stay!

Based on other Trip Advisor reviews, we booked for a 3 night stay when passing through London, wanting a boutique and luxury hotel. We were not disappointed, and is the extra touches that can make a holiday - here, we found our room ready at 12 midday and were provided an unasked-for upgrade to a suite; however, even the ordinary rooms are roomy. The naming of the rooms from theatrical persons of 19th and 20th century UkKwas a quaint and interesting change from numbered rooms - we had the Gilbert room. There is provided afternoon tea, a 6pm glass of champagne, and 9pm hot chocolate in the lounge area, where a selection of papers are offered daily. The hotel is quiet, is a resiential area, but only 100m from the bustle of Sloane Square and easy transport. It is expensive but worth the splurge if you can, and so much nicer than a large hotel.
