The Refinery is heavily promoted as the ultimate male spa getaway in central London and it is quite good, and can be a nice experience, but standards are variable. The decor is modern and relaxed and one is invited in to sit in a comfortable area. Things start with an offer of water - the order usually does not arrive. Then the treatments. The Vichy shower is excellent and unusually some of the therapists massage you in the Vichy, which is very pleasant. Last time I was there the machine didn't work properly! Dry flotation is very good, the tanks work better than many of those at other venues and the wrap and head massage whilst you lie in it are very well done by some of the therapists. Then massage - some people there are very good indeed, but some are rather unskilled, and tend to focus too much on gentle and in fact rather insipid massage rather than good skilled tissue work. The hairdressers is nice, they do proper shaves but only by appointments, which seem difficult to arrange. Last time I went the barbers were male and irritating. Prices are not too bad by London standards. Expect to book an hour massage and get the usual London spa 41 minutes with the last 5 being particularly rushed whilst the therapist thinks about getting away from work. Sometimes reception overcharge for some things or add items you didn't have, including drinks you ordered but were not provided. On several visits, dirty glasses were lying around, rooms were scruffy and equipment did not work.
