You can tell when the staff are really well trained and no where is this better demonstrated than the Metropolitan. From the immaculately presented staff to the pristine appearance of the hotel shows that whoever is running this place has a serious attention to detail and whoever you speak to demonstrates this with spades.
Nothing is too much trouble, as a demonstration of this I overheard a young waitress being asked by a foreign couple for a Clotted Cream Tea with Scones and Jam. Normal one might think, but at breakfast?
This presented no problem to the waitress who understood the couple were flyer elsewhere in the afternoon so breakfast was their only chance to sample this very English treat. She was never flustered and whilst I did not witness the outcome all was well under control and the couple were delighted with this impeccable service. The bathrooms have all been refreshed since I last stayed and the whole hotel seems to have received a fresh vigor and energy. Clearly others appreciate great hotel keeping because it was completely full when I was there and for a Park Lane Hotel to be this busy at the weekends shows how the cream will always rise to the top even in so called recession times.

This is probably the best hotel I've stayed so far in London. It is very much overpriced though, so it's ok for business travel but there's better value to be found when you're on your own dime. Rooms are clean, nicely furnished, good mattresses, lots of light, etc.

As all British hotels, they don't have power outlets in bathrooms (arrrgh) and these guys didn't have power outlets anywhere near the mirrow in the room. I guess I was their first guest who wanted to blowdry her hair in front of a mirrow. They did provide an extension cable after I yelled at them.

In addition, you can't VPN from this hotel, period. Their system doesn't allow it.

The breakfast was very good compared to what other hotels in London serve (that means it was what you would find in any US diner). If memory serves, it came to about $65, FX taken into effect. But it was edible.

I would stay there again for business (VPN be damned) but definitely not for leisure.

I am coming to the Metropolitan in London for more than a decade and although I tried also several other hotels in London, this one stands out. It is like Four Seasons meeting style. With Nobu in it, it is just a destination in itself. It will need renovation in near future, but it still looks better than many of the newest places.

when i checked in the room i got was technically an upgrade but was in a really bad location due to construction across the way. the hotel was very full and they could have easily let me move on (and even charged me for the room per policy) but instead they worked really hard until they came up with an amazing room that just had to be cleaned due to late checkout. that combined with the great concierge, bartenders and nobu staff made me feel like it was my apartment building not a hotel. the room was also one of the best views i have had in london. i will be back next week.

Our family stayed for 4 nights in a two bedroom apartment on Hertford Street, which is around the corner from the main hotel. The apartment was spacious, clean and well appointed. It really felt like a home away from home. The location was perfect for sightseeing (5 minute walk to Hyde Park station, 10 mins to Green Park) and the concierge was extremely helpful procuring advance tickets at the last minute for the London Eye, Tower of London and Buckingham Palace state room tour allowing us to avoid the long ticket lines.

Stayed at one of the serviced apartments provided by this hotel but the smell of fumigation was overwhelming so asked for changed straight away. Moving to another flat was initially a good proposition which I took on board and moved the day after. Three days later I was watching TV in the launch and had a black rat moving over my feet from one side of the sofa to the other - a complete shock. I received an apology from the manager and was offered a move to another apartment in a different street and block away from the rat house. Although a better apartment and fully rebushed recently had a serious downside to it. The bedrooms were in the ground floor, windows were single-glassing and had a continuous generator running 24/7 which made my sleeping arrangement impossible so at the end decided to sleep in the first floor and in one of the sofas at the TV room. You think that at £300 per night for a stay of 17 nights you will get a better service? NOT HERE

Never ever again and suggest no one ever stay there! THE SERVICES APARTMENT SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN BY THE HEALTH AND SAFETY UK AUTHORITIES

I have to say that I found staying at The Metropolitan to be one of the best hotel experiences of my life. The location on Old Park Lane between Marble Arch and Green Park tube stops could not be beaten for convenience. The rooms, while decorated in the hotel's rather starkly modern style, were very comfortable and immaculately clean. The bed was exceptional. My partner and I had a room overlooking Hyde Park with a king-sized bed and had no complaints whatsoever. The room had all of the modern conveniences and technological bells and whistles, including free Wi-Fi which was a decided bonus. The breakfast was delicious and almost too much food.

In addition to the above, the thing which really sealed the deal for me was the wonderful service at The Metropolitan. Before leaving the US, I sent a message to the concierge requesting that our bed be made up with blankets rather than a heavy down comforter and duvet. Each night that was exactly what happened at turn down. I did not have to remind them once. The concierges were very friendly and very helpful, as was the desk staff. An anecdote: one evening I dropped a glass in the bathroom and it shattered; the first thing the desk man asked me when I called down to get someone from housekeeping to vacuum it up was "Sir, are you all right? Do you need medical attention?". And the housekeeper was there in less than 5 minutes.

Given the Met's "cool" reputation, we had some fears that we might not be "cool" enough to be happy there. On the contrary, we were given a warm welcome and unfailingly terrific service. To me, "Five Star" refers to service more so than amenities. The Met delivered and is worth every penny.
