“Excellent Budget Accommodation”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

As we all know accommodation in london is horrendously expensive, but this place was surprisingly cheap.

The best thing about this place is the location - 5 minute walk from Kings cross station, which basically means with a connection to just about all of the tube lines, you can be anywhere in london within 20 minutes. We caught the tube to the West End, The Oval, Tower of London, Hyde Park and all of the trains made it back to kings cross no worries. seriously it was amazing.

As to the room itself, the twin private room we had (Duchess room 5) was very small, basically enough room for a bunk bed, locker, and doorway, but the sheets were clean and the beds were comfortable, which is all you can ask for really. The room also had its own split system so temperature was not a worry.

It was relatively noisy outside but we didnt really notice, probably because there is so much to see we were very tired when we got home every night. The bathrooms and breakfast were just okay, but reception was very friendly

I would definitely recommend this place to others, both on price and location

I chose this hostel because of its location to Kings Cross Station but I wish I hadn't! The place was sooooooo cold. I had to walk down three flights of stairs to use the large bathroom because the light had broken in the single bathroom closer to our room. The bathrooms steemed very dirty and you had to keep pressing a timer in the shower. I had very little sleep because even with the windows closed you heard every word on the street below. Never again.

They are very cheap. We walked there from the street, looking for a place to crash for one night. We have paid 60 pounds for double. Very small rooms in a basement, no bathroom, no window. Free breakfast with lots unhealthy choices but it is enough to start the day. What was ridiculous, WIFI ia not free and they made us pay for storage room. Great location for sightseeing and transportation. Hostel good for one night.

Keystone was a mistake- while there were some positives, the negatives far outweighed them. Don't recommend staying here.

Pros first:
1) Loved the bed and bedsheets- clean and very comfortable.
2) Great location- less than a 5 minute walk from King's Cross Station which is connected to a ton of lines and also to St. Pancras International where we took our train to Paris.
3) Lots of good affordable restaurants and grocery stores within a 5 minute walk from Keystone.
4) Staff is nice, the receptionist charged us a couple less pounds to store our luggage because he noticed how frustrated we were with all the extra charges.
5) The bathroom's paper towels were nice and thick, but they don't restock it fast enough.
6) Room have A/C

Cons:
Keystone charges for pretty much everything! I was surprised they don't charge for breakfast.
1) Wi-Fi: If you want wi-fi in your room or use the internet on the the computers in the front, you have to pay. In all my recent years of traveling I've never been to a hostel that charges for Wi-Fi. There is free Wi-Fi in common room but Keystone tells you at check-in that the common room is open 7-11PM. Get with the times!
2) Leaving your luggage after checking out: 2 pounds per bag. This is the first and ONLY hostel I've ever been to that charges for this! We were shocked.
3) Late checkout- 5 pounds per person if you check out at noon instead of 10AM. The night before the receptionist told us it was 5 pounds so we thought it was per room, but when we checked out they said, "No, its 5 pounds per person." Great. Thanks for being so clear before. We also were woken up by housekeeping when we wanted to sleep in.
4) Feet smell: When we walked in the Duchess Deluxe Twin Room, the fresh smell of feet hit us in the face. This is a permanent fixture of this room so please make sure you don't get this same room.
5) The room was small so I can't even imagine what the NON-deluxe rooms were like.
6) Although being "deluxe," there are no mirrors and the window curtain fell off while we slept.
7) The three floors of duchess rooms have to share the toilet and bathroom on the first floor.
8) The shower is not continual, you have to keep pushing a button to maintain water flow and you also cannot control the temperature, there are seconds when you get a bit burned from the shower.
9) There is absolutely no personality at Keystone, bland walls, very ugly and smelly kitchen and medicore common room.
10) Breakfast is very minimal and bland. We ended up getting food from Tesco and leaving it in the fridge- at least Keystone doesn't charge for that either thank god!

We only stayed one night in an ensuite room, it was ok & met our needs for the night. We were on a budget but getting our bags up the stairs was painful but the location made up for anything else & the staff were more than helpful.

This was my second time in a hostel and the Keystone was just great!
Location was perfect for my need, staff was very welcoming and ready to help.
Bed was really warm and comfortable and even if I was in a 16 beds dorm, there was a wall to split it in two so there was a good privacy. Every bed had plugs and a light and a locker. Also, every bed had a panel next to it to give more privacy. There was a small kitchenette in the room which was very useful. The bathrooms were quite a few and always clean. Breakfast was basic but included in the price and it was okay to get a cup of tea, cereals and some bread.
Price was just great for all this! 90£ for 5 nights.
I'll be back if I'll ever need a hostel in London again!

Accommodation was very comfortable. I was in an 8 bed room near the road for 20 pounds a night. Some car noise is was heard but that's to be expected in busy Kings Cross, and it was not obnoxiously bad. They had internet access for a fee, depending on how much time you wanted to use it. The showering facilities were very good with lovely hot water and water conservation devises for those who want to be environmentally friendly. The shower rooms had plenty of space to manoeuvre. TV Lounge was in the front of the hostel and bar and outdoor courtyard were available for use. There is also a kitchen for cooking your own food if wish up on the top level. Overall, a great hostel. Clean, comfortable and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Level 1 3a faced the main road. Don't know anything about other rooms.
