Beautiful opera sung to perfection. The main aria had the whole audience in tears. The critics said the sets were too traditional - I thought they were stunning. The bar area is stunning too for a drink during the interval. Lovely, lovely evening.

I saw the royal ballet perform and it was magical. I was traveling by myself in London, and this was the only experience I wish I could have shared with someone on that trip. The whole experience was fantastic. I started out having a glass of Ruinart in the Champagne hall and had the best seat in the house( I know because I was sitting next to Christopher Wheeldon who happened to be the choreographer of the ballet that evening). The rooftop bar and balcony were delightful to wander about, and I love the tradition of everyone having ice cream during intermission. It's very whimsical in a way to see all of the sophisticated ballet goers hanging out in the halls eating ice cream like kids! So fun. It was the highlight of my travels for sure.

If you enjoy opera there is no better place to listen to the best singers in the world than the ROH, and that includes the orchestra and conductors. However, the staging of recent productions has been met by boos and rightly so. The costumes of the recent staging on Manon Lescaut looked like Oxfam rejects, and the scenery was appalling, with Manon dying on a half finished motorway. Maria Stuarda, an Elizabethan based opera had the main protagonists in tudor costume. The rest of the cast were in modern day dress with modern settings which were dreadful, and were at odds with the libretto. Shut your eyes and enjoy the wonderful music and singing and try and forget the aberration of the staging!

There is something special about the Royal Opera House, something imposing. It isn't as huge as you might imagine, because the balconies are only a few rows deep. There are escalators and elevators if you're seated high up. The enormous bar downstairs is very convivial, and you get a good half hour for the first intermission. Book in advance, or if you don't show up early in the morning on the day.

It was just a masterpiece. Wonderful, wonderful and exciting performance. And premium tickets worth of their price!
Royal Opera House is a "must go" if you like opera.
