It's unbelievable that all this incredible art is available to view for free. Please leave a donation! My favorite and always must see painting is Whistlejacket- amazing life size portrait of an Arabian horse. The museum is so large that you can't possibly see it all in one trip. The museum dining is extra special although construction currently mars the usual lovely view.

As with the Louvre and the Prado the collections are overwhelming and you can easily get museumed out. We chose our favorite periods of the Impressionists, Canaletto, and landscape paintings and that was plenty for one visit. Amazing that it is all free!!! Contrary to previous reviews there were a lot of school-type groups but in our case the students were very interested. Delightful to see so many people interested in art.

Having visited with a school group the exhibtion coordinators are very well informed and keep children entertained. I am always impressed and if you get time visit the cafe.
