This was a great exhibition which my friend and I decided to approach in reverse starting with gold and working backwards to the colour wheel. It was a relatively small exhibition and therefore took different aspects of art's relationship to colour in each room, giving superb and unusual examples across all periods of art to illuminate either the techniques employed; the historical importance of a colour; the instability of some pigments leading to effects that changed their appearance over time; visual values and actual values embodied in particular colours, etcetera. Each room with its attendant colour focus took us on a fascinating journey. I highly recommend this exhibition to those with and those without a knowledge of art and colour. We were totally enthralled and talked about it for some time afterwards.
