“Very Educational”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

I would highly recommend this. I visit almost every time I go to London. You can take it a bit at a time and the late opening on Thursdays is a fantastic idea! I am not into art but love the educational value of this place!

“Good, but a bit "samey"”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

We went to The National Gallery first, and enjoyed it a lot. I thought The Portrait Gallery would be even better, but in fact is was not as good. If you have an interest in English Royalty over the ages then this is for you. But if you extract all the portraits relating to this, there isn't much left to talk about. Glad it was free.

“The faces of Britain on display for all to see”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

A unique collection of portraits, where royalty, celebs, and the common folk are represented on canvas. The highlight is the Tudor collection, with 15th- and 16th-century portraits of Henry VII, Henry VIII, their queens, and of course, Elizabeth I. You stand in front of these sublime portraits and realize that you are probably looking at the actual likenesses of these historic and somewhat legendary monarchs who shaped modern England. A truly unique experience. Go see the death mask of Henry VII, founder of the Tudor dynasty, at Westminster Abbey's museum.

It wasn't as crowded as Hockney, but still it's better to go earlier in the weekday morning.
