“Impressive”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

London offers so many museums and art galleries, it can be hard to narrow it down to just a few. The National Portrait Gallery is definitely one to keep on the list. It's near the National Gallery (also a must-see) and offers a huge array or portraits from the past and present. It's not huge, so won't be too exhausting if you plan on spending time in Trafalgar Square or the National Gallery as well.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Located directly behind the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery is a lovely place to browse through for an afternoon. Much smaller than that National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery is full of portraits of Britain's best, dating from the Tutors to Lilly Allen, Paul McCartney, and Anna Wintour. The Gallery flows very nicely, is easy to navigate and doesn't take too long to get through either. Grab a map and start upstairs with the Tutors and make your way through history to the modern portraits on the lower level. Make sure and stop in the Regency room, where there are benches and live harpsichord music. You can sit and listen in a room full of magnificent paintings, you actually feel like you have stepped back through time. Don't miss the Warhol painting of the Queen, and the mixed media portrait of Isabella Blow. Although this gallery is often overlooked because of its bigger neighbor, take an afternoon and enjoy the National Portrait Gallery, you'll learn a lot about Britain and have a relaxing time in this beautiful museum.

“Good but crowded”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Interesting Virginia Woolf exhibition but marred by numbers let in during 30 min slots. There is a lot of information to read and combination of numbers and small gallery is counter-productive.

“Excellent Virginia Woolf Exhibition”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We came to see the Virginia Woolf exhibition, which was a real treat with an excellent selection of paintings, photos, letters, diaries and relating to Woolf, her family and friends. It was well worth the £7.00 entry fee.
