“The only place to stay in London”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2011

Would you like to stay in a hotel where it feels like coming home? Where you come into a space and there's always a smile on the faces from the people who work there? And that it is beautifully decorated? The Covent Garden Hotel has this. This was our second stay, our first was in October 2010 and then again October 2011 for 4 nights. We were just as impressed as our first stay. We had travelled from Australia after a very long flight, our room was not quite ready which was fine so we waited and went for a walk around Covent Garden. When we got back to the hotel our room was ready, it was like an oasis. Stunning! So very comfortable and so spotlessly clean. The housekeeping team obviously take pride in their work. We were escorted to our room which was such a lovely personal touch. We ate at the Brasserie Max, the food and service was fantastic. We also treated ourselves to an Afternoon tea in the Drawing room on our last day which was such a treat. The hotel is in a great location with the famous Neal's Yard across the road. Would I stay here again? Yes! Do I recommend you staying here? Absolutely!

This was my first visit to this hotel, although I was with a friend who had been going there almost since it first opened. We had a wonderful stay- the accommodations were first rate - with only a few minor things - we stayed in the basement which at first was off-putting but it was a spacious, well appointed room and a huge bathroom. It was a bit musty smelling but when we complained about this they kindly sent down a scented candle which we lit every day. Like most UK bathrooms there is no plug for a hair dryer in the bathroom and there were a few plugs that didn't work in the room, but we worked around that. The gym is decent and the library, breakfast buffet, restaurant and bar were good. Not inexpensive but very good. Most of all I have to commend the staff for seriously great service. Over, above & beyond the call great service-- especially Nicky, the concierge who went out of his way to help me get an important document sent to the States after Fed Express had closed up shop for the working day. Highly recommend this hotel and look forward to going back.

Room Tip: If you want a large room- ask for Room 1.

I've eaten in the Brasserie, had cocktails on many occasions, and even watched a room in the Screening Room, but never before had I stayed at the Covent Garden Hotel. I booked my husband and I a night away and we decided to splurge on a stay at this gorgeous hotel.

Firstly, the hotel is beautifully decorated in a very traditional English style. We had a Superior room on the fourth floor, which was decorated with dark, cosy wallpaper, had a few armchairs, television and the most amazing bed in the world. It was a super king, with the cosiest duvets and pillows. Bathroom was all in a marble style, with 2 sinks, a bath and combined shower, a toilet and bidet, and lots of lovely Miller Harris toiletries (there's a Miller Harris shop next door). The hotel has an extensive list of films that you can borrow to watch, so we did this in the evening and enjoyed our complimentary chocolates with the movie.

Location-wise, it is great. On the outskirts of Covent Garden, with Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Soho about a 10-15 minute stroll through some gorgeous streets with great shops.

Breakfast is delicious. The best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel, with pancakes, granola, fresh fruit, cereal, fruit compotes (absolutely divine), as well as lots of hot options. Luckily our package included breakfast so we didn't have to worry about the fact that a side order of baked beans cost £5, when only half a tin was used which must have cost about 25p...

The only niggle from our stay was when we tried to use our Mr & Mrs Smith perk of a complimentary bottle of champagne. I had signed up for the M&MS the week before, at the same time as booking our stay at the hotel. The membership card takes 5 working days to arrive and so it didn't come in time for our stay. When we stayed at another London hotel the previous night, they were absolutely fine for me to forward them the M&MS purchase confirmation email so that we could redeem the perk of free cocktails. When we checked in at the Covent Garden Hotel, I explained the situation & asked whether I could forward them the email. This caused a lot of furrowed brows and they said they would have to check with the reservations manager. When they called our room, they said that the perk was only applicable if we had actually booked through the M&MS website, even though that's not what the website had said. I explained that I would find it very surprising that the hotel we stayed at the night before were okay with it (and were half the price), so I would have thought the CGH would be even more accommodating. They rang back 5 mins later and said it was fine, so we had our bottle of champers. It was all sorted in the end, but I did find it a little strange that a hotel that charged us upwards of £300 for one night was trying to find a loophole to get themselves out of an arrangement. I would have thought the mark-up on the baked beans meant they have a nice healthy profit with everything they offer.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay and we hope to return for a special occasion in the future.

Room Tip: We had superior room on the fourth floor which was lovely. It faced the street but there was no road...

We have just returned from staying at the Covent Garden Hotel for the weekend with our 8 year old son. This was our second visit and it was absolutely perfect - wonderful room, professional and friendly staff, great central location ......and superb breakfast. Could not have been any better. Thoroughly recommend it!

We have visited the Covent Garden Hotel three times now and not only is the hotel fabulous with the greatest location in London but the staff are absolutely phenomenal
. They look after every little detail and make us feel "at home". The night manager, I believe his name is Craig welcomed us back every night, asked how are day was, asked if he could help with any recommendations for the next day and most impressively, called us by both name every time. We would never consider any other hotel whenever we are in London.

Room Tip: We personally like the rooms facing Monmouth Street

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more   less
