A great hotel with individual styling in the rooms, attentive staff and a great location for Theatre District & Covent Garden (its only seconds away from the Cambridge Theatre where Matilda is presently showing).
We had a Four Poster room and adjoining Junior Suite (the rooms were not interconnected but had a lockable door that separated them in the corridor outside), making them ideal for families with older children. The Four Poster room was more traditionally decorated but the bathroom was a disappointment being a little on the small side with a shower over the bath, whereas the Junior Suite was more modern in its decoration, with a fantastic walk-in shower.
If you want a smaller London hotel that is more personal, then this is the place for you. The hotel has that little bit of extra charm, the Guest Drawing Room / Library is like something you would normally find in a traditional English Country hotel.
Make sure you have one of their Afternoon Tea's before you leave, the fresh cream scones were just perfect.
It must be good...as we would return.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more less
