“Great Bar and Service”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

This is a wonderful hotel just off Seven Dials. I am not normally a fan of hotel bars, but this one is exceptionally good. Great range of drinks and cocktails and always served with a smile and chatty service - Great place for pre theatre or dinner drinks.

We stayed in the Loft Suite. Beautifully appointed room, very comfortable bed, great service throughout our stay, easy check in/out. A good experience. Good location for shopping, dining, theatres et al. I highly recommend the accommodation and I'd have given them a 5 but...we were surprised when we had lunch in the restaurant after checking out. The salmon, the accompanying vegetables and the side dish were all exactly as my mother used to make. ie they seemed to have been thrown in the pressure cooker and steamed until no taste or texture remained. Service was still great and the ambience was fine, it was just that all flavour and texture appeared to have left the building :-)

We'd definitely go back, we just wouldn't eat there again, which would be fine because there are plenty of other great alternatives in walking distance.

Room Tip: Stay there but don't eat there

Besides it being comfy and cozy and gorgeous to look at in every single public space and bedroom, it is the staff and their jovial desire to be helpful in any possible way that makes this hotel magical. It is always warm and relaxing to return to with welcoming faces in the bar and restaurant, the concierge desk and the front desk. It is impossible to imagine a more impeccable as well as friendly level of service. The standards for the beds, the baths and furnishings are also the highest possible and have been designed with a great eye. Would that I could live there.

I have written about the Covent Garden before. It is my favorite urban hotel: a great location for business (close to the center of London), in a neighborhood that is great for walking, close to theatre, music (St. Martin in the Field) and the National Gallery. The rooms are all different and beautifully appointed without being fussy in the least. The beds and linens are magic for sleep. Each room includes a good place to work. The restaurant is wonderful. I learned on this trip that the rooms are redone every five years. I stayed in one that was recently refreshed, just lovely, but they are all really special. Room Service is possibly the best anywhere. The food is fresh, nutritious and perfectly prepared. The kitchen staff are happy to do things just the way you want, which in my case is simply, and the service is very fast. The Dover Sole is superb, as are the homemade chicken soup and the homemade jams. Everyone is terribly welcoming -- it makes such a difference.

Stayed here recently during a work trip. The location is perfect - steps from the heart of Covent Garden and right across the street from the very wonderful Monmouth Coffee. Room was decently sized and very clean and everything worked well. The only slight knock down is that the room smelled a little smokey - not overwhelming, but still not super pleasant. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We absolutely LOVED everything about this wonderful little hotel, except for its location. The street it's on is quaint enough, but we were not fans of crowded theatre district around the corner (think English Time Square) or of our location within the city in general. We spent a lot of time and money on cars back and forth to Chelsea, South Kent, Hyde Park etc.
But once we were back at the hotel, we were in heaven, Spacious guest rooms with gorgeous decor - a perfect mix of comfort and appearance, modern and classical. Same goes for the common areas (the library is to die for).
Perfect service throughout, from the concierge, to the bell staff, to the restaurant etc etc.
Great little gym, Great food and bar.
We truly, truly loved it, and desperately wish it was in Knightsbridge or the like.
But if you like/want/need to be near Picadilly then this is THE PLACE - run, don't walk to the Covent Garden Hotel.

a few of us headed up to London for the day, anticipating our 2.30pm booking for an afternoon tea seating. When we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and taken to our table in the lavish surrounds. The hotel staff were great, and the service was brilliant. Nothing seemed to be any trouble and we were delighted with our array of delicacies. i am vegetarian and although the menu did not offer vegetarian choices, we were informed of their ability to cater for different dietary needs. In short, our 2.5 hour seating went closer to 4 hours and no one asked us to move on or hurried us in any way. We loved the afternoon and I would definitely return. We didn't stay here so can't comment on anything other than the afternoon tea sitting.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more   less
