Such a wonderful place! I took my girlfriend for her birthday and It was perfect. The Staff were welcoming, smiley and friendly. The décor was spectacular, romantic and everything I had hoped for. I did not feel let down once, Communication was excellent, both via email and telephone, I asked for a romantic room, paid for a superior double and we stayed in a room named 'Mary Lane', it was beautiful. The bathroom had a spired ceiling which let in lots of lovely natural light, the bath was huge, I'm over 6ft and don't usual take baths as alas i don't fit but here I fitted comfortably as I did in the bed which was one of the best i've slept in. The room was full of character, as was the rest of the hotel, paintings, exposed beams, stone sculptures, and magnificently framed paintings, an honesty bar and a friendly cat as cats go.Brekky in bed was good, if a bit expensive. I was also conveniently a stones throw away form the underground station. We have already promised each other to return ASAP.It really was a very special place.

Room Tip: Ask for the Mary Lane room if you are staying in a superior double. its dreamy.

I've stayed here several times and loved each visit. The last few times were as I was working on an art installation, and I came home at night looking grungier and grungier as the days went by. The front desk attendants never batted an eyelash and treated us with just as much courtesy and kindness as they did any other guests. Gotta love that.

In the midst of London's Gourmet Ghetto --- Moro, St. John's, Vinoteca, and many other terrific restaurant are in easy walking distance --- the Rookery is an Unhotel and seems more like your rich friends' country place in the middle of London. Charming and friendly service, Lovely antiques. Excellent (if costly) breakfast.
Only one thing to beware: there are claw-footed bathtubs that require some nimbleness to enter and leave and to avoid soaking the entire bathroom.
By London standards, this is a reasonable place.

Room Tip: Go for the superior rooms. The rooms are quite different one from the other, so you might want to l...

Stayed here 4 nights, and it was probably the nicest hotel I've ever been to. From the entrance down a side alley, to the discreet staff, to the reading room, and finally to the room itself, the hotel kept pleasing. The room was beautiful, lots of charm and space to breathe, and the bathroom was amazing, with a fantastic claw foot tub and plenty of light. The hotel is very quiet and doesn't feel like a hotel. Instead of a huge impressive lobby, the desk is in a small area, and the staff there were all wonderful. Most of the time I saw no one else in the common areas, which included a fantastic library and a great honesty bar out back. For room service, I did order a cheddar and chutney sandwich that was amazing. The hallways and other common areas were clean and charming, as was the room. It feels very much like a very small small old quiet hotel in Paris, with only one person on duty. And I must say that although the staff were not that visible, they were extremely effective, for example in arranging carfare to a dinner outside london. Probably more helpful than staff at any hotel where I've stayed.

Room Tip: No lift, so choose a lower floor if you don't want to climb stairs.

This was our second stay at the Rockery prompted by wife calling it her favourite hotel(and we do get about a bit). This was London Olympics time and the Ilse of Wonders concept suits this hotel to a 'T'. We had a suite this time which was huge and covered two floors the bathroom being downstairs vivid red walls chic full of antiques and a 4 poster.
Yes it does not have a restaurant, yes you have to search for the hairdryer(and somewhere to plug it in). But if you want that do holiday inn this is for romantics for those who like quirky things(the bust of a women who stares at you as you sit on the loo- the TV behind the fold away mirror- the bar in the wardrobe) if Danny Boyle did hotels it would be like this. Noisy ,I would call it viberant it's a 24 hour living City for god sake. Quirky yes, expensive hell yes but it's for people who value experience not Formica and pastels.next for us it's the Buddha bar hotel Budapest.

Stayed here for two nights and we were really impressed by the place, lovely room worth paying extra for a superior room as it was quite large. We had breakfast which is served in the room which was lovely, hot coffee and lovely fresh breads, fresh juice. The area has lots of lovely restaurants and bars which are just away from the more busy areas

Stayed here the night before a very special event in London and couldn't have done better. It has a very unique look, classic, rich and warm, with antique furniture but all mod cons. It's in a wonderful area with great restaurants and pubs within five minutes walk (The Modern Pantry, Smiths of Smithfield). Staff were courteous and thoughtful. Great breakfast in our room. Very well insulated from the surrounding streets - we wouldn't have had any idea we were so near the market or any night life. It was pricy by our usual standards but for a special occasion couldn't have been beaten.
