The location and the lobby was the first Wow, they welcome you in a charming way.
The room was really nice and maybe the only issue is that is a little bit old, but do you expect from this historical hotel !!
The best of the hotel was the restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, the food was amazing, but the best thing was the service.
Thank you for turning a business trip into an unforgetable experience!!

Dear Ben L, let me just say what a great pleasure it was to have you stay with us at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London recently and thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. Your valuable feedback is much appreciated and we were thrilled to learn that you enjoyed your visit so much and that the team were able to make you feel so welcome whilst here. We were particularly delighted to read the comments regarding our fantastic location, world famous Mandarin Oriental service and your experience in Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. It may also be of some interest to you to learn that in addition to recently opening a state of the art swimming pool and fitness centre, we will also be launching a new Tea and Champagne lounge later this year. We stayed at the London Mandarin Oriental which is located right on Hyde Park facing Harvey Nichols. There’s no better location if you need the triple endorsement of a good address, period real estate and a plethora of luxury brands. You’re surrounded by high culture (the V&A is a mere stroll away), high prices and a heightened sense of privileged entitlement. This might account for the slight snootiness of the doormen at MO but once you run their gauntlet, the supreme aesthetics of the interiors are calming and reassuring. Our guest room was courtyard-facing, small and dark but that’s not uncommon in cities like London. The MO experience was evident by the regularly refreshed fresh fruit, the “his and her” slippers and the genius whimsical touch of a fan shaped bookmark discreetly placed in your book on the night stand. - See more at: http://padraicino.com/2014/02/14/48-hours-london-beyond-tourist-trails/#sthash.4zJkufpn.dpuf

Dear Padraicino, it was a pleasure speaking with you in person this morning and many thanks for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. We were thrilled to read that you enjoyed our Mandarin Oriental service, pre-eminent location on Hyde Park and all the little touches that made this experience memorable despite the experience at our Doors being below par and which has been addressed with the team. We appreciate the feedback and hope to welcome you again on a different occasion.

With best regards

The location next to the park and close to Harvey Nic and Harrods means that you not only have great shopping nearby, but also great restaurants. Mandarin Oriental is on of the best hotel groups, perhaps even the best, but their London property needs some TLC. I got great service, a nice upgrade (large room), but it was too used to feel like a real MO. Its like getting the old BA first class vs. the new; its good, but dated. And you know they can do better. The bar was nicer before the redid it some time ago, and its more drunk biz-pople than a mixed crowd there. Dinner by Heston was closed due to flew issues?? for a week, and Baloud in the basement is not very cozy or elegant. Comparing London to the still great NYC property, or the fantastic Bangkok property, its not worthy of the MO-brand. But its still a good hotel, make no mistake. Call in the designers and redo the reception, bar and first floor area with some seating, touch-up the rooms, and the impression will be so much better!

Room Tip: An updated room on the side facing the park (less noise)

Dear Gudleiv, firstly, let me just say what a great pleasure it was to have you stay with us at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London recently and thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. Your valuable feedback is much appreciated and we were thrilled to read that you enjoyed our fantastic location and world famous Mandarin Oriental service so much. With that said, however, we were most disappointed to learn that you were not entirely satisfied with every aspect of your experience, primarily as a result of our room product. Service excellence is the pillar on which we build upon, and our aim is to consistently provide this to all our guests, so I am therefore disappointed the product let us down this time. Your feedback on the accommodation has been well noted and been shared with the relevant departments. The hotel continues to invest behind its’ product including new food and beverage offerings, pool and wellbeing facilities and is in the process of finalising a rooms renovation plan for the near future. We will also be opening an exciting new Tea and Champagne lounge in 2014, providing a public space for guests to relax and enjoy refreshments. On behalf of everyone here at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, we would love the opportunity to have you stay with us again to demonstrate that this was an isolated incident and highlight that not all of our accommodation is of the standard you experienced. If you would allow us to, I would like to personally take care of your next reservation and ensure you are well look after and thereby restore your faith in Mandarin Oriental.

With best regards

The lobby at the top of the stairs has a welcoming log fire but only two chairs if you are waiting to meet somebody or for a taxi. The doorman will open the door and hail a taxi for you.
Not the sort of place you can wander into. Although you could drink in the bar area at the back beside the Dinner restaurant.
My lunch at Heston Blumenthal's Dinner restaurant was a delight, open to all who are willing to pay for a special occasion.
The hidden reception rooms at the back associated with royalty were interesting for those who can afford private functions such as weddings.
The downstairs staff were abundant and willing. The long wait to see a bedroom was ridiculous.
The bedroom I saw was delightfully comfortable. Everything five star. Marble floor bathroom. Bidet. The widest bed you can imagine. But the balcony was a disappointment, no chairs, and if you wanted to smoke or take a photo, uninviting. I was scared to step out to see the view and take a photo for fear of bringing back dirt and moss onto the opulent carpet. The decor of this room was colourless and old fashioned but other rooms are in different styles. The hotel will be much more attractive later in the year when they finish the swimming pool. My companion liked the dark entrance hall. I prefer light and white and was happier in the main dining room.

Room Tip: The room cleanliness was excellent but the balcony was covered with moss. I'd ask for a picture of the bedroom before accepting it if I were paying all that money £500 or more.
