“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Looks a bit drab from the outside, but once in reception area is clean and smart. Were quickly checked in and dropped our cases in the clean and adequate room. Hotel situated a couple of minutes from tube and plenty of shops and bars close by. Slept well and breakfast was lovely in the newly refurbished restaurant. Cant fault this hotel and will definately be staying again.

having stayed at the same hotel three times in four weeks, the frustration with having to register every time, is only the start. junior staff in charge that have no authority was frustrating, especially when they advised the booking had been cancelled, when of course it had not....frustrating is probably the sum of the stay

We had an overnight stay at The President Hotel ,Russel Square,London.Very surprised. The staff were efficient on reception, very accommodating. Lovely bar with pianist and double bass player.Prices in the bar were very reasonable, considering we were in London.Everything you could want for breakfast.

Room Tip: if you like a soft pillow to sleep on take your own.selected a low score for sleep quality due to la...

We stayed here as part of a package deal from 12th-16th May and found the hotel to be a perfect location as coming from Heathrow the underground train took us straight to Russell Square on the Piccadilly line with no changes which is such a boost when you are carrying luggage.
Our room was on the 7th floor and though small was very clean as was the bathroom, it would be a good idea to put up hooks behind the bathroom door as there is nowhere to hang things, also there was no air con in our room although the windows did open. The 7th floor has it's own lift now (looks like it could have been a goods lift before), I add this as I have seen reviews that say you could only take the lifts to the 6th floor then have to take the stairs to the 7th.

We went for the hot breakfast which was adequate but did not like the fact that there are no individual teapots, the waiters bring round tea in jugs like the coffee pots and tea can be stewed and tepid so we asked for a little teapot each with hot water and teabag which they gladly supplied.

We arrived on a Monday and on the Tuesday evening decided to have dinner at the hotel but found the atmosphere very cold and rushed, we sat with an Australian couple we got chatting to in the bar who were also a bit bewildered by the service that night, carvery was ok.

The bar area is spacious and airy and quite Art Deco with seating comfortable and relaxing, from this area you can access a herbalist, hairdresser, bank and newsagent during the day which we found very helpful indeed.

The 'Geordie' gentleman at the desk (unfortunately didn't get his name but you know who you are)! was extremely helpful and friendly showing us how to get to places we wanted to see and you can also buy tickets for the 'hop on hop off' bus from the desk which is very handy, the British Museum is minutes away, all in all a very centralised hotel and very reasonable for Central London.

A special mention to the staff who were always friendly and hardworking, you made our stay a pleasurable one and I would not hesitate to return in the future .... Thank you

Room Tip: I would suggest the higher the floor the better but this is London so you must expect a certain amou...

We stayed here for two nights part of super break deal, after reading previous reviews i must say i was a little concerned as to whether the hotel would be Ok, i was pleasantly suprised and it was ideal for our stay, the hotel is perfect location, clean and comfortable, the room was on the small side and the bath was small, but for the price we paid for a central London hotel is was excellent value. The hotel is close to the Russell Square underground station, which is on the Piccadilly line.
The breakfast was fine, i have had better but also i have had worse, it was part of the deal , the staff were so helpful and friendly...the bar area is spacious and good, and the whole hotel was much better than i could have wished for....would stay again.

Room Tip: we had a room on the 6th floor, it was on the quite small but had been re-decorated .

Very central location with great communications. Room was a good size, small bathroom without hooks, so nowhere to hang things - not unusual in London hotels in my experience). Unfortunately, the hotel (or at least the 7th floor where I stayed) has no AC, so I had to have my window open at all times. Some way of securing that the window stayed open would have been good. My room looked out on Russell Square, which has heavy traffic, so traffic noise was a constant. There was nowhere to put clothes - only a few hangers in the closet, no drawers at all in the room! Breakfast was OK, the "Continental breakfast" consist of cereal, milk, juice, toast and coffee/tea, nothing exciting. Some yoghurt and fresh fruit instead of canned fruit would make it loads better. The "full English" looked and smelled very unappetizing - didn't taste it. If possible, skip breakfast at hotel and have it nearby - there are several places that serve breakfast at reasonable prices. Room stewardess was excellent, very accomodating and helpful. I needed to access the internet to check in my flight and the hotel's internet machine (£ 1/15 min - outrageous) wasn't working properly, but the porter/concierge was very helpful and used their computer. I usually use an internet cafe, but it was late evening and they were closed. Hotel has free wi-fi, but it doesn't always work.
I give the hotel 2½ circles (the ½ is thanks to the staff!).

Room Tip: Try and get a room that overlook the back or side street. Do not pay extra for breakfast.

We stayed here as part of a package deal and were pleased. The lounge area looked comfortable and the dining room staff pleasant. We ate there in the evening as weren't sure of any good eateries nearby. My meal fine but husband's meat from the carvery was very chewy and although plenty he had to leave it as he couldn't cut it!. Room adequate for one night. They had taken something off the wall but left the screws proud which could have been nasty if you had fallen against them. (We mentioned this on the desk the next day as we left). Breakfast was fine but very busy. I would stay here again if I needed to stop over for Eurostar.
Room was small but we could open the windows. It was either that and hear the traffic or roast - we chose to listen to the traffic and breathe.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the street - the windows open.
