“Ugly outside pleasant inside”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

When i saw the outside my heart sank to my boots it looked like something from eastern block in the 50s. However once in reception it was like another world. The staff were really friendly and helpful and on our first night we were given complimentary 3 course meal!. The room was very small and had a tiny wardrobe with now where to hang our coats. Having said that i would go back .

We stayed for six nights in a recently refurbished room on the sixth floor. Although the room was small, the design was modern and efficient. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed. It's basic accommodation but comfortable and clean and, considering the price, good value for the money.

Our rate included the continental breakfast which was fine for our needs. Our only complaint was that the dining room was a bit disorganized and the serving staff were not very efficient or helpful.

The biggest plus for this hotel is its location since it's only a three-minute walk to the Russell Square Underground station. It's also very close to Russell Square, the British Museum and the British Library.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors have been recently refurbished.

I booked a Superbreak deal to London for two. Return rail fare, two nights at the President, first night evening meal, two breakfasts (full English) and a river cruise. The deal was £285. I thought this was a very good price. The staff were extremely helpful at all times. One man printed off 2for1 tickets from my iPad to their computer because I couldn't manage it myself. The rooms looked as though they had been recently upgraded. New carpet, bathroom tiles, furniture. The bed was extremely comfortable, with crisp clean sheets. No air conditioning but it is an old hotel and the windows opened fully (don't know about the H&S issue). This could make it noisy when the city woke up in the morning but who wants to lie in when there is so much to do! Russell Square tube station is just around the corner. Buses run very frequently and it's easy to understand the time table.
Here come the down points.
Whereas our room was excellent, the carpet on our corridor looked as if it could do with a major vacuum. It seemed extremely dusty at the edges rather than worn. The vacuum which was by the cleaners trolley was only a small household one. Get it sucked up and clean! The bottom of the room doors were bashed and scuffed. Probably from guests not being careful enough with their suitcases. On the last morning I went to each floor to see the state of the corridors. Ours, level 4, was by far the worst. Level 2 was nearly as bad but level 6 looked new. Perhaps they're working down!
Would I stay there again? Definitely yes.

For somewhere to sleep with no expectations of luxury this place is fine. Location near Piccadilly underground is a definite plus, and cost reasonable, but there are no frills. Breakfast is adequate but basic - evening meal very ordinary indeed (canteen quality)
Rooms comfortable, but again no frills.
Wifi free, but only usable in lobby or bar.

I booked this hotel without looking at the reviews, after reading the reviews i was wondering if i had made a massive mistake, On arrival at reception at 12.30pm ,check in time was 2pm booking in was very quick and professional, very helpful staff, we were told our room was ready and we went straight in, The room was very tired looking, but cudnt fault the cleanliness, very poor tea tray even for a 3 star hotel, tea and coffee in sealed packets with a serviette and a plastic spoon, only one each and two little cartons of milk, beds were very comfortable, very quite room, Breakfast the next morning, the staff on a morning are not morning people, miserable and very unfriendly, apart from the guy taking us to our table who greeted everyone with a friendly good morning, The food - plenty of choice, everything a continental or English breakfast shoud contain, The major fault was that it was at best tepid and at worst freezing cold, didnt seem to matter what time you went in for breakfast, all items very well cooked but not pleasant to eat,(other reviews had stated this and they hotel obviously havnt taken any notice of these) the lobby and bar area are very nice mostly on the whole friendly staff, i would stay here again but would take my own tea and coffee and eat elsewhere for breakfast, it is ideal for the tube and only a leisurely 20mins walk to covent garden, Dont be put of from staying at this hotel but be aware of the negatives, with a little more care and some thought into keeping the breakfast

Room Tip: We were on the 1st floor, very quiet room, but one of the rooms that hasnt been refurbished

I came to london with my daughter (18).
We just don't like the hotel. The breakfast is poor and nobody clean between the guests. The tables are filthy.
No air condition!
The rooms are very very small.
Very small wardrobe.
Shower is small
The only good thing is the location and free wi fi.
I am still at the hotel. Two nights to go. And I just hate it.

Staff very helpful.
Breakfast excellent ,buffet style.
All in all very good.
