Nice hotel in great location. Easy walk to the bus and train stations. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The elevator was small but in good working order.
Breakfast was pretty good.

After reading reviews I was not looking forward to staying here (hotel provided via gift experience so selected for us) but can't really complain.

Double room booked but we had a triple room, a little dated but nothing drastically wrong. Only complaint was double bed against wall meaning I had to climb out during night. Floor boards in corridor creaky and only access to floor 3 was by lift which only held 3 people which caused congestion.

Breakfast was not to my liking but that's probably because it wasn't what I'm used too - salad, cheese, boiled egg (unshelled) and fried tomato

Having this hotel selected for us as part of a theatre break by Virgin Experiences, my girlfriend and I were looking forward to having a memorable, comfortable stay in a nice area, close to Paddington Station for our journey home.

We have both stayed in numerous hotels in London, the rest of UK and all over the world and never once before have we felt compelled to complain, but we feel so strongly about this experience, we just had to write a review, as we would hate for someone else to experience what we have just endured.

Walking along the street, all the hotel frontages look sparkling white and beautiful, but once inside, you step into a time machine back to the 1960's. The lobby looks old, clean yes, but very old. Not charming old (as stated) or anything like it, just OLD. The main pictures used in the hotels advertising are very misleading and weren't representative of our room.

When we walked into our room we where surprised to feel that the floor felt spongy under our feet, with a shabby carpet on the floor; from a guest experience a stable floor and some clean carpet would change a lot. The room was woefully inadequate it was just about wide enough, with the double bed pushed right next to the wall, hence no exit from one side.

There was no drinking water provided, there was a Crack in the Ceiling from one side of the room to the other, the Safe was not working. Whilst cups and a kettle were provided, there was no spoon to lift a teabag out of a boiling hot cup of water (health & Safety!!!!). There was a dirty towel left on bathroom floor, with the door handle in the bathroom not working properly, and the bathroom door had paint flaking off it. In addition there was wallpaper peeling off the walls and paint flaking off the ceiling. In all the general décor was poor and very dated. The bath was quite stained and if you flushed the toilet and tried to use the shower straight away there was no pressure, so you had to wait 5 minutes for the toilet cistern to fill up.

Turning to the breakfast, we have eaten many continental breakfasts and this was definitely not in the top 1,000. You felt like you had 100 people, sat in a space for 50 and it was very cramped. The serving area was very congested and not thought out at all, as I had to wait for 10 mins just to get a slice of toast! The choice was very limited and did not look appetizing; Chopped tomatoes, Scrambled eggs, stale Bread, Croissants, Lettuce, 1 meat that looked like cheap end luncheon meat (not what I would call continental), Plastic sliced cheese, cereal selection was small, no fresh juice, it was powdery from a machine, there were no jugs for milk for a cup of tea. The service - there wasn’t any; We sat for 40 mins talking and our table was not cleared once.

This hotel is in a good location, but unfortunately we would definitely not recommend it. We thank god we only had 1 nights stay here! If you are looking for good service, with a nice breakfast to set you up for the day and a comfortable room, then we suggest you look somewhere else.

On your hotel welcome letter by your MG Dir/CEO, you state “A Consistently superior standard of produce and service quality” and “Our singularly most important objective is to ensure that you enjoy a comfortable and memorable stay with us”. Yes it was memorable for all the wrong reasons and whilst a very truly disappointing stay, the blame for the poor choice of hotel lies at Virgin Experiences door!!!!!! As it was certainly an experience and not one that Mr Branson would wish to endure I am quite sure!

Room Tip: Give it a miss - Go to another Hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of July. It really does have a great location near 2 stations, Queensway and Bayswater. Little supermarket attached to service station in next block was very handy. As for the service in hotel, there was none. Room was very tired, hot and small. Breakfast was a joke. It was served in a restaurant with clunky furniture that took up all the space. You couldn't even put your legs under the table for fear of belting them with lumps of wood. I asked whether it was a vegetarian breakfast as we saw no hot meat ( bacon, sausages) served on either day. The first day was fried eggs and tomato while the second day was boiled eggs and mushrooms. No other hot choices. Croisssants were stale or had been frozen. The serving area is configured into a ridiculous U shape which causes massive congestion as there were large groups of young people there. School trips? While waiting for our transfer to Heathrow, we decided to have a drink in the ground floor bar/restaurant. The bar area was strewn with dirty dishes and glasses and was hurriedly "cleaned" and dishes/glasses rinsed then wiped with a dirty tea towel before our very eyes.We had ordered a scotch each. A rude female manager interrrupted the barman and demanded cups of coffee for a management meeting taking place outside on the terrace. The barman attended to the manager's order and left us waiting for our drinks for quite some time. When we finally got our drinks, straight scotch and ice, they were DEFINITELY watered down. We are regular scotch drinkers and know both the colour and taste of genuine scotch. When our shuttle driver arrived 40 minutes early to collect us, we were in the bar area waiting. The reception staff told him that we had checked out and left. He waited outside for 25 minutes then when we went to collect luggage from luggage room, the receptionist informed us that driver was waiting outside. Our travel agent has used this hotel for some time for her clients. We have advised her to cease booking clients into this hotel. Don't stay here. Management is non existent. This whole hotel need a big shakeup.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

The hotel is four blocks away from Bayswater Tube Station (8-10 minute-walk depending on your pace). Our room was on the 5th floor. It is spacious with a separate living area and a huge wardrobe. We picked this hotel as it was only two blocks away from Malaysian Hall and we have paid a reasonable price for 3 nights (via booking.com). We were obviously desperate for Malaysian cuisine after almost 10 days of continental meals so we thought that this hotel, being Malaysian owned, as our best bet. But to our surprise, the hotel served typical continental breakfast. If you are looking for Malaysian breakfast, i.e. nasi lemak or roti canai, you will need to pay extra (and it is rather expensive and has no real taste of Malaysian cuisine. I guess it has been modified to suit local taste). The hotel receptionist was friendly and helpful (we asked them to call a cab for us to Heathrow airport, and the cab driver was quite adamant about us giving tip to him, though he didn’t even help with our baggage). The drawback of this hotel (beside the breakfast) was the water heater in the room take time to heat and if you are standing outside your room, you will definitely could hear your neighbours talking and too bad for us that we heard our next room neighbour making love while we were standing outside our room before entering.
