“no heating in cold night !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2011

booked last minute double bed for 2 days in a rush , then realised i could have got cheaper options ! first night was cold , so asked the reception to turn on the heater , they said ok , but nothing happened ! next day asked them again , they said they should call the central heating and it will take a couple of minutes for heating , nothing happened again !!! so be prepared for cold nights!

Room Tip: rooms in basement is not good

Dear Ben B – we are very sorry to hear about the heating problems you faced during your recent stay with us. Due to the mild weather in London during October we had switched the heating off as a number of guests preferred a cooler temperature in their rooms. Once again we apologise for the problems faced.

I stayed at the hotel in October 2011 for 5 nights. It's definitely not 4 stars hotel. Room was very small!!! especially for 2 persons. Even no place to put your luggage! In addition Hotel itself and rooms are dirty. Bad was uncomfortable. However, location is convenient to Hyde Park, 15 min walking to Oxford Street.
I would not recommend this hotel. There are better and cheaper alternatives, e.g. serviced apartments.

The hotel overall is just about OK! but the room turned out to be so much smaller than expected. The pictures show that they have these amazing bathrooms, with bath tubs and all...but in reality they turned to be smaller than a loo in an aircraft. Its nicely located, so that a plus, atleast you can catch a bus or a tube by walking about 5 mins. All in all, a very average hotel...

Dear Shareshtha – we thank you for your review on The Byron. We do not ever give the impression of being much bigger than we actually are, and am sorry to read if that is what has happened. Our bathrooms are far bigger than ‘airline loos’. Once again I am sorry to read that we did not come to your expected standard but hope this was not due to any miscommunication on our part. 5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2011

Our 1st trip to England and my wife and I needed a place for 2 nights in London. We chose the Byron and it was perfect. We had room 15, 2 twin beads. We had been warned that rooms would be small in England, but I had to stay in an older place to get a feel for what London is really like. Since we were also booked 2 nights at an International chain, I made sure to stay at something quite different.

Yes the room by US standards was very small, but I knew that so that was not an issue. So if travellers understood where they were going and what is normal, maybe there were be far fewer complaints about the size. We arrived to the hotel about 13.10 after travelling on an overnight flight and they accommodated us at that time although check in is normally a little later.

The room was extremely clean, the bathroom was huge, and there was also a safe that would fit my laptop. The front desk staff was always pleasant. The thing that was different for us was needing to leave the key at the front desk if we were to leave the hotel. That was not a problem, and actually made one less thing to worry about losing. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well the 2 nights.

We did not eat at the hotel so I can not comment on the food. The location was excellent. Close to a tube station, and pubs.

I would not hesitate to stay again and found it much better and cleaner than the Hilton we checked into after we left the Byron.

Reasonable rates for London. Near tubes and stations. Hotel clean and tidy, small rooms but not bad for London. Breakfast was disappointing.

My wife and I love to fly to London, although last year( April) our hotel and the following Icelandic volcano were not such a hit! We stayed at the Byron about 10 years ago so when we decided to go again last week (September) we thought we would give it a try. Not much had changed (I mean that positively!), the rooms were not larger- hardly possible, but cosy and clean and the hotel was obviously freshly renovated. The staff were extremely friendly and forthcoming and, of course, the location is perfect to get into the city by bus No. 94 to Oxford St. and Piccadilly Circus (for first-time visitors the only animals are two-legged!) or the tube from Queensway. We opted out for breakfast although I'm sure the English breakfast for £8 odd was up to the standard of the hotel. Altogether it is to be recommended and a nice final touch- I filled out the questionnaire on leaving with my email address and the lady manager wrote back to thank us for staying with them and hoped to see us again. Madam- you will!!!!

Room Tip: We had Room No. 21-very quiet, nice view but don't you dare take it when we want to come!

Dear valued guest – our staff thank you so much for your lovely comments on The Byron. It is good to read that although the world has changed immensely in the last 10 years, The Byron still retains its charm and welcoming presence for our customers. Our lady manager Carmen would particularly like to thank you for your recognition. We of course look forward to seeing you again soon – hopefully earlier than in 10 years!

Stayed three days. Clean and small but right in the heart of everything and two different tube lines within two blocks.

Don't buy the breakfast. There cheaper and better options close by.
