“Old and tired”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

Room was clean( except the carpets ) but very basic ...one plug socket between 3 meant half charged phones. Room above had a party that went on until 3am ! so no sleep for us reported it to staff the next day who apologised and said these guests had checked out. No hand towel in the bathroom .The worse thing about this hotel is the filthy carpets. On the plus side 24 hour hot drinks were very welcome ....the garden area was nice to sit in and relax .... the tube station was a couple of minutes walk away and the staff were very nice.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, your review will enable us to better our services for future guests.

We are delighted that you found our team and service excellent. Many thanks for your feedback about the clean rooms however we are disappointed to read that you found the carpet dirty. The carpets are deeply hovered everyday and are being checked by our supervisor. We assure you that your comment will be relayed back to the housekeeping supervisor.

We pride ourselves in providing a clean base to all our guests and your feedback is certainly inspiring and motivating us to better our services. We are also happy to hear the area worked well for you given the closeness to the underground station.

We have kept a few expandable cables, which can be provided to our guests upon request should you require additional power outlets. (Subject to availability)

We are sorry to hear that you did not sleep one night because of the noise from the room above. Had the front desk been made aware of this at the time we would have been able to resolve the situation. We have in place a 24-hour reception service in order to provide the best possible customer service to all of our guests.

We apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

We do hope we have the opportunity in the future to show you our improved services

I stayed here 7 nights with my wife and daughter, and I have mostly good to say. Hotel is located with in walking distance (approx. 3 min.) from West Kensington tube station. Most London attractions, as well as Heathrow airport, are accessible directly via tube with District line or with one switch to Picadilly line. Hotel is located in multicultural residential area with couple of decent restaurant. I talked with local residents and they said that this neighborhood is safe and peaceful. This hotel does not serve breakfast but there is great cafe nearby that does. Service in this hotel was excellent and everybody working there were really polite and helpful. We planned to stay here again next time we are in London.

Dear guest,

Our Team at Kensington west are really pleased that you had a great experience staying with us.

Thank you so much for mentioning that our team are very polite and helpful. We strive to offer the best personalized customer service and I am delighted to know that is what you experienced.

It is indeed a great plus point for our guests that our hotel is conveniently located. We are 3 minutes’ walk from West Kensington underground station in zone 2. The district line has most of London's major attractions on it and with one change Heathrow Airport is easily reachable.

We are happy to hear that you will stay with us again when you return to London. We hope that you have a even better stay with us on your return.

I had to stay here for business last night. The room was filthy, dusty & generally unkempt.

The window wouldn't open, there was no air conditioning & the room was around 30 degrees all night.

The reception were entirely unhelpful & today I've called the number they gave me to request a refund & there is no answer & a rude message tells you you cannot leave a message.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Trip Advisor, following your stay with us.

We do genuinely appreciate all our guest’s feedback and of course it is disappointing to read negative comments. We apologize for not being able to meet your expectations.

We are a mid range budget accommodation and do not advertise having air-conditioners or fans in our rooms.

This was a rare occasion as London experienced heat waves in July during your stay with us.
All the windows in the hotel have width restrictors and open up to 45 degrees which is mandatory as per Health and Safety Regulations.

We have a team of young enthusiastic personnel who try to go out of their way to make all our guest’s stay a comfortable one. Most of our reviews emphasize that our team are helpful and friendly.

I apologise for not being able to answer your call as we had a problem with our phone line which was resolved promptly.

Greetings from Kensington West.

This hotel is extortionate for even London when you look at the standard, quality and level of service. The room is tiny (which is fine, and a certainty in most central London hotels), and I know it's the hottest summer for 7 years, but this room had no air conditioning, no fan available and barely a window. The most uncomfortable bought ever, didn't sleep a wink, felt like a sauna, may have even lost weight it was so hot! Terrible.

Room Tip: Don't go! Stay anywhere else!

Thank you for choosing Kensington West as whilst staying in London.

I am sorry to read that your stay with us was not to your satisfaction. Please accept our apologies for the disappointment you experienced.

We pride ourselves in providing a clean base to all our guests, as Hospitality for us is not just to provide a lodge to sleep in but to make the experience of our guest a comfortable and memorable one.

Kensington West is a 40-Room hotel that prides itself in offering quality basic standard accommodation. Our aim is to provide you with 'value for money'. We do not pretend or portray to offer luxury, deluxe or superior rooms and also do not advertise having air-conditions or fans in our rooms.

All our windows in the hotel have width restrictions and open up to 45 degrees, which is accordance with the Health and Safety Regulations.

We would like to point out the fact that London was experiencing a heat waves which is an unusual weather condition for London and cannot be foreseen.

I was charged 3 times the normal rate for this room. It was not worth 100€ and I was charged more than that. The room was dirty and it looked like someone had gotten sick on the carpet the night before. Security was a joke and I was afraid to leave anything valuable in the room while I was still in it because I thought it might get stolen. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. This is the worst rip off of a hotel I have been in my entire life.

My stepdaughter (19) and I (34) stayed here for 4 nights for a long weekend. During our stay I attended a fair at Olympia Exhibition Centre for 2 days and the hotel couldn't have been more conveniently situated, barely a 5 minute walk away from the Exhibition Centre. My stepdaughter was exploring London in the meantime and would catch the bus right outside the Exhibition Centre - both bus 9 and 10 run all day long, number 9 being a 24 hour service. Both are convenient for the main attractions and shopping areas. West Kensington underground station (District Line) is a 5 minute walk in the other direction and Barons Court (Picadilly Line) is a 10 minute walk (the Piccadilly Line runs to Heathrow Airport). There is a large Tesco superstore within a 10 minute walk as well.

Upon arrival we were able to store our luggage in the luggage room on the 1st floor; we did the same on checkout day. Friendly staff, very helpful.

We stayed in room 9, a small room with bunk beds. I must agree with other reviewers that the room is not for the claustrophobic (same goes for the bathroom and especially the shower), however the room was very clean and well kept, with plenty of room to store luggage under the bed and plenty of space for clothes in the open wardrobe (4 smaller shelves, 1 big shelf, 1 section for hanging clothes - a few more hangers wouldn't hurt though...).

Beds were very comfy with firm yet not too hard mattresses. Nice large pillows.

A hairdryer is provided as well as liquid soap at the sink/in the shower. Clean and "big enough" towels. No bathroom mat though.

Room 9 was on the ground floor, quite close to the reception. There were no less than 3 fire doors to pass on the way to the room which was a bit of a hassle when carrying luggage. Also this meant that guests who checked out early/came back late would open and close the fire door right next to our room rather loudly - after 1 night we weren't as disturbed by it though.

We didn't try the breakfast as it wasn't included in the price - there is a Sainbury's around the corner where we bought breakfast every day and took back to the hotel. A coffee machine with complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate was located in the reception area.

All in all a very pleasant stay - the hotel could do with some extra signs outside though, when walking from West Kensington tube station you almost miss it due to the sign being on the end of the house... Would stay there again, especially if I were to attend another exhibition at Olympia.

The room was so tiny that you has to walk sideways to go through the room. It had no air condition, no fridge.

We found receipts and and makeup brush under one of the beds. The "free" Internet was a joke and you had to pay extra for "high speed" Internet, in spite of the rather high room price (which might be a London thing though).

Despite it being called a "bed & breakfast", you could not get breakfast. I have no idea where they would have served it anyway.

The neighborhood seemed rather "run down", but we found a couple of cheap options for dinner, for the nights we didn't feel like eating out.

Room Tip: I would not recommend you to stay at this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

I am sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. We monitor our reviews on a regular basis to ensure that all our guests get the best service.

We have 40 rooms in the hotel accommodating up to 6 people and they all differ in size and shape. During Wimbledon, our pricing was comparable to similar properties in our area, and we feel we give good and fair value for the price.

We do not have air conditions or fridges in our rooms and thus do not advertise these amenities. However, all our rooms have Flat screen Plasma TV and hairdryer.
This is shocking and appalling for us to know that you found old receipts and brushes under the bed. This will be relayed back to the housekeeping department to ensure this does not come up again for any future guests.

We provide free wireless service to our guests; it is a limited speed voucher, which is sufficient to check emails and browse the Internet. However if guests want to watch videos and download large files we give all our guests the option to purchase a faster speed Internet voucher from the reception, which has a speed of 1 MB/sec.

We used to sell a premier continental breakfast packs however we have now discontinued this and all of our rooms are sold as room only and thus breakfast is not inclusive in any of our room rates. We do not have a dining space or restaurant in the hotel due to space constraint.

We are based in the heart of West End and blessed with many cafes and restaurants. The Kensington High Street is just 10-12 minutes’ walk from the hotel and offers a variety of high end cafes and restaurants.

We apologize for not meeting your expectations.

We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back.
