“Good choice in North London”
Reviewed 6 May 2011

While a bit tired looking on the exterior (think 1974..), interior spaces and rooms have been kept up and are quite comfortable. Housekeeping was good and overall the staff was quite friendly and attentive.
The location was more convenient than I had expected. Although a bit further out than most tourists might prefer, with London being as large as it is, one can not expect to be central to everything. Travel time on the tube to say, Westminster, including the 10 minute walk to Swiss Cottage station was less than 30 minutes most of the time. Some weekend work on tube lines extended that a bit during our stay but did not cause undue angst.
A couple of decent restaurants for local dining up on Finchley Road including Eriki if you are fond of Indian as we are.

Recently at this hotel for a conference

Plus points:
Easy to get to - v close to Swiss Cottage tube
Good catering - excellent breakfast and the lunch, given it was a sit down for 200 people, it was of a good standard

The negatives for me were:
The hotel looks pretty tired and dated - particularly externally, went to the loo and had to sit with foot against door due to lock being broken - not what you'd expect!

The main issue for me though was, and this isnt necessarily the hotels fault, but rather the organisers choice, was that the conference venue for such a large audience was too small - it was like being a sardine in a tin, particularly in the exhibition area that was small and with a low ceiling - I left early in the end as I found it overwhelming

Im sure the hotel is fine for a weekend city break or business meeting - I wont go to another conference there though

We'd pre booked a couple of months before and had only done so because the Hilton Metropole where we'd previously stayed were full. We've stayed in various Marriott's so knew what to expect.
Positives: breakfast was lovely
Beds super comfortable
Size of the hotel - not over imposing like some chains can be
Location: for us a plus as we ate out at Primrose Hill each evening, felt like a nice safe area though, 5 min walk from Swiss Cottage station
Concierge: Really helpful, walked to main road in rain to flag us a taxi - now THAT'S great service
Facilities: pool really nice and clean and warm
All public areas spotless
Reception staff - very friendly

Niggles: Room quite noisy at night but it was London so what can we expect? So only a niggle
Two lifts out of three broken so huge queue and wait to get to our room - couldn't find any stairs which was really odd
Breakfast area was absolutely heaving!!! Metropole does this much better. it was Easter so incredibly busy, other hotels open up another breakfast area but not this particular one. the area where all the fresh bread, cereal , juice was is tiny so a huge bottle neck formed. They also remove the waffle maker at the weekend (????) and reluctantly made one for the kids when we asked. Breakfast wasn't included and we paid in excess of £60 for two days so I didn't think it was unreasonable to ask.

Negative: just the one in the form of Maria -- whose grandly appointed title of "Rooms Controller & At Your Service Supervisor" was not as apt as her surname. We had booked three months earlier as we specifically wanted a room with two doubles. An email fired off to us the week of our stay declared that we probably couldn't have this and would now be getting a rollaway bed instead. On ringing her, my husband declared her the rudest woman he had ever had the misfortune to speak to and asked after a very lengthy conversation to speak to a supervisor. Ms -- by name and Grim by nature begrudgingly agreed and rather than find someone for us just transferred us straight back into the IVR, automatic queuing system. "At your service supervisor" she was not.
We had to ring a further three times to request a manager call back, there was never one available either to speak to us directly or even it would seem, for us to get a call back from. Eventually we spoke to "michael" who assured us that we would be given the room we booked.

All this may seem a triviality but the weekend wasn't cheap and all I expect is to receive what I am booking.

It was a shame really but overall given the breakfast queuing and the real pain in the butt at the beginning, we'd pick the Hilton over this one.
People say location location location but for me customer service will always be the deciding factor

Room Tip: Lemonia, Greek rest, Primrose Hill. Gr8 with kids

I stayed at Marriott Regents Park for 2 nights this week and was checked into one of their 7th floor rooms with fantastic views over London.
The room was spacious and well laid out, with a good sized bathroom & lovely big towels!
All the staff were extremely attentive & helpful, the hotel even had a cut out of Wills & Kate on Thursday morning as I checked out with beautiful red, white & blue flower arrangements in the lobby.
A fantastic hotel which was located perfectly for moving around London with ease.

Stayed here in 2010 for a leisure trip. The hotel building looks reasonably dated from the outside, but don't let that put you off as it's standard Marriott on the inside. It's in a nice suburban area, which of course has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's not in the heart of London, but is only a 5 minute walk from a tube station and bus stop. Taxi's also queue outside the hotel.

It's a pretty standard Marriott inside, which is a good thing. Friendly reception and restaurant staff will make you feel welcome. The rooms are reasonably big by London standards, and are of a high standard. The Marriott beds are my personal favourite, and the rooms are tastefully furnished. You could be in a Marriott in any part of the world though, so if you're after a hotel with individuality then this isn't the one for you.

An excellent choice for a hotel if you need to be in this area, or if you don't want to be in the centre of London.

Had a very good nights stay in this accommodating hotel. Comfortable beds, great facilities/service and the Executive Lounge was an enormous bonus.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for executive rooms

Room usual Marriott quality, although road noise at issue in the room. Bar food fine and good service. Pool/gym service shocking when I needed £1 for the locker, the attendant did not have any change and told me to take my clothes pool side....whilst he gambled on the Internet. Thanks to the guest that kindly lend me a £1
