“Edwardian grandeur without a huge price tag”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2014

Booked a single room and wasn't expecting anything special for the price but was delighted to be given a cosy and comfortable room with a view out over the square - quintessential London! Although the furniture, bathroom etc is a bit dated everything worked fine and I enjoyed my stay. The bar downstairs is quite atmospheric - a slice of Edwardian London and I enjoyed hanging out by the fire there. Overall was pleased with my stay, especially given how little I had to pay for it. Will certainly consider staying here again.

Stayed here last night having worked in London for a few months.

Everythings was lovely - nothing horrible to write about the hotel. Staff were courteous and polite - the hotel was clean and had a feeling of gradeur.

Had room service and this wasnt just any salad - but the best salad you could ever have wished for!

I usually dread removing the duvet and will often sleep ontop of the duvet if Im at all worried - but not at this place - lovely crisp cotton bedding.

Lovely fancy carpet too in the spacious corridors.

Lots of traditional English character to this hotel so would also be good for toursist but a respectable and relaxed atmosphere for business guests too :-)

Room Tip: I specifically requested a quiet room as I work long hours during the day so was placed on the 6th f...

My husband and I stayed here the night before an appointment at one of the nearby hospitals the next morning. We arrived about 7.45pm, checked in without any hassle - I'd been a little worried as I'd got a deal via laterooms - and were given our keys to the second floor room. Room itself was of a good standard, although there was a distinct lack of electrical points. We went out for dinner (at Cosmobo also reviewed) and had a decent night's sleep. Went down for breakfast the next morning which was of a reasonable standard although our coffee was not as hot as I would have expected. Checked out prior to our appointment using the express system so not painful at all. Location is good, costs about £5 in a taxi from Euston if you are not able to do the ten minute walk. Close to lots of eateries, Little Italy area is down the road. Would stay again if the price was reasonable.

This hotel is only a fifteen minute walk from St Pancras station. It has a wonderful entrance hall and staircase. The rooms are a good size, the staff helpful and the breakfast fantastic. The concierge is very helpful giving advice on places to visit and storing luggage until required.

Room Tip: higher floors are quieter.

The Hotel Russell is a splendid terracotta brick classic Victorian style which is also reflected in the main Staircase. But there the splendour ends, the rooms are tired and have furniture dating back to the 1970's with handles about to fall off. The sash windows are shabby and only single glazed which prevents neither cold or noise from entering the room. As stated by other reviews, rooms that overlook the central quadrangle suffer from the noise of the multiple air conditioning units.
In the room I was given the shower thermostat did not function correctly and alternated from hot to cold on the same setting.

Wifi was not free and the fire door which was outside my room banged shut each time it was opened.

In its favour the bed was comfortable and there were tea and coffee and ironing facilities in the room.

Given the cost of the room (£171 March 2014) this did not represent good value for money and I would not use this hotel again as there are better hotels in the area for a similar price.

This is a great shame as from the outside the hotel promises so much but is in need of some TLC and upgrading.

This is a wonderful Victorian edifice a ten minute walk from Euston Station. Although slightly faded
the entrance hall and stairs are magnificent. . Staff are very friendly and the breakfast was of a high standard. The bar is pricey so be careful what you order or go elsewhere. We were in London to visit the British Natural History Museum which is only 15 mins away.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on one of the top floors, facing Russell Square
