I booked this hotel for my partners birthday and wasn’t disappointed, in fact from the moment we stepped inside we felt very welcome. Met by the beautiful chandeliers, staircase and art deco interior (we later found out was designed by the same man who designed the Titanic interior) and very friendly concierge. On the off chance I asked at reception if our room would be ready, I booked a Junior Suite. It wasn’t ready, but the lady behind reception said we could check in, and that way we just needed to leave our bags with the concierge and pick up the keys later when we returned. The lady was a pleasure, a real ambassador of customer service. I might be biased because she gave us room 718, a slight upgrade on view, a corner room which had 180 degree views over Russell Park and had lovely views of the Eye, the Gherkin and the main square.
When we returned in the evening to change we were met out of the taxi by a very smart concierge, dressed in top hat, key pick up was smooth, we collected our case and ascended to our room. It was a very hot day, so were very grateful of the cool air conditioning and the cool décor of the suite. It comprised of a clean, stylish beautiful bathroom, king-size bed, balcony seating, desk area, chaise lounge and a further seating area AND a full length sliding mirror plus much more. Perfect for the birthday girl!
We popped down to the bar area before we headed out for the evening. We were dazzled by the décor and drinks/waiter service was at the table. The nibbles with our drinks were appreciated. It was a perfect space to relax after a long day, or begin a night out. There was a bat menu, we didn’t eat, but the food that came out of the kitchen ‘mini fish and chips’ etc. looked lovely and there was a good selection for vegetarians, simple choices, but favourites. Why can’t all hotels understand less is definitely more.
We had a comfortable night’s sleep. It was a very quiet room. Tea making facilities were the norm and complimentary water in the fridge was appreciated.
The hotel is closely located for London Euston, and we walked to the South Bank in 30 minutes. Check out was quick and simple. From start to finish staff were friendly, professional, smart and courteous. All in all I was very proud to take my partner there for her birthday weekend, we shall be returning and we will recommend to others.
Thank you Russell Square, you did me proud.
