“Could of been better.”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

The bedding and towels provied where clean and fresh but the room showed definite signs of wear and tear. The paint was falling off the walls, the skirting boards broken, the carpet definitely needed replacing, the mirror in the bathroom almost fell off when touched and the bathroom was a bit grubby. The breakfast was minimal and the croissants and other pastries were stale. Despite this I cannot fault the friendly and very helpful staff on the front desk, the same cannot be said for the rude woman serving breakfast.

By London prices the Americana is reasonable and therefore you aren't going to get that much for your money. However the location is good, about a quarter of a mile from Baker Street tube and the staff seem friendly. There is a modest but functional breakfast and everywhere seems clean.
The downside would be the small rooms, my fourth floor attic room was a box. Also with temperatures outside in the high twenties it was a very humid box with only a noisy manual fan that i found in the wardrobe to provide a modest amount of cooling.
In short go with modest expectations and this is a perfectly acceptable hotel

Room Tip: Fouth floor room was tiny, certainly only suitable for one person

In my visit with my son who was on his birthday 15ft we went to visit this city (January 2007) just to comeback to México city after 16 days of a trip in the European Continent, we arrive on our fligth delayed from Budapest via Rome supposed to arrive at ten on the nigth because of the delayed flight ( I felt in the lonely airport at that time as If after crossing the gate where we picked our bagagges as if we were in twiligth zone), we miss the underground train to downtown, so take by chance a free double decker after checking that the local taxi had asked us 80 pounds for the trip from heathrow airport...arriving to downtown an italian girl working in London told us to take the bus to Marble Arch then we walk at one in the morning for three blocks with sixty pounds of bagagge. We saw the American Hotel a 5 stars hotel but it was not the hotel we had the reservation so we continue another three blocks and wats the small front of the American Hotel....we rang the ring and somebody from pakistan, very kind by the way open witha blanket covering him...he asked us to take the elevator for the first floor..so my sun take it and I walk the stairs up with the baggage ...because elevator was too small, then we arrive to the room ...it was like a palace sp cozy with the windows to the Gloucester street a kind of balcony. It has a very comfortable pair of beds and a clean and modern bathroom so it was very comforting nigth and dream ...so was the breakfast the coming morning..it was excelent for the price as well as a beautiful peopole and place London city....umhhhh

Room Tip: The one to the street I can imagine give more as long as the roms are ok....

Recommened by agency we find this hotel appropriate to our needs in short trip to visit London for the first time. Underground in 5 minutes walking far, hop on hop off the same, lots of restaurants nearby, Tesco on the corner. Staff speaks English for foreigners - that means slowly and clearly. Breakfest was rich. Elevator looks like cabinet - funn historical experience. Rooms are small but as I could mention in homes in the street, this will be local standard. Facing busy Gloucester Place, rooms are a little bit noisy. what is super is wifi not only in lobby but in the 3rd floor, too. Safe is in the cabinet and electricity adaptor is available in reception. Sanitary in the room, hairdryer included. we can reccommend for o simple short visit of London

If you're claustrophobic you'll become if you stay in the room at the American Hotel - London. Rooms are extremely small, ridiculous, we had a baggage which had no place to put it. If the camera is with the street view is much noise, we slept with the window closed but I guess summer is pretty hot (no air conditioning), but it is better with a street view because if you sit in a room so small and with a wall view, it's even more tragic. Breakfast is good although not very diverse but the staff at the restaurant looks very bored and ineffective (the coffee machine was broken and was hardly repaired in two days), reception staff are friendly, hotel is clean but old and needs renovation, tariff is quite expensive for the conditions offered. The location is excellent, central. May I recommend the hotel for those unpretentious tourists willing to visit beautiful London all day more than to sit and complain about the hotel room too small.

I've stayed here twice. It really does need a make over! But it is in a ideal place! Staff are lovely! Breakfast aren't that great either! Could get better for the price! TV in room is small but is what I expected really. Isn't as bad as what people made out thoigh. Wouldn't really stay with children

It's about a block from the underground and the underground system is easy to work. So that's. Plus but the rooms are so dirty that I don't think they ever get cleaned. Completely dusty and gross.

Staff is rude unless you get the older gentleman. They weren't helpful and made us feel like it was a bother when we asked them where things were.

Room was never cleaned when we were staying here either. Even though we did NOT put the sign on the door for not cleaning.

Rooms have no AC and it's very hot. I would stay somewhere else next time. It would be cheaper and better located if I stayed closer to central London.

Breakfast consists of white bread and yogurt. Just save yourself the headache and stay someplace else
