“better than i expected”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

stayed 2 nights in a family room, 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
room was bigger than I expected and was more than adequate for our needs.
good central position, 2 minutes from covent gardens and within walking distance to the thames/London eye/british museum.
staff very welcoming on arrival and a nice bar to have a drink or 2 after a long day

I have just come back from a short trip to london, where I stayed at this particular travellodge for one night. whilst i knew the rooms would be basic i was a little surprised that there wasn't any toiletries - nothing fancy I was just expecting one of those shower gel/shampoo things that hotels have stuck on the wall. I was also surprised that when using my WiFi it kept directing me to pay for premium WiFi, which was a shame. The only other down side was the walls being a bit thin! I could hear the conversation of the lady next door at 3am as well as the telly blasting through the wall. That said the bed was comfy and the room was clean and the hotel itself is in a good location. The hotel does promote an Eco friendly environment, so maybe the reason for its minimal rooms - but on the plus there is a little kettle and tea/coffee provided in the room. The staff were also very pleasant and happy to help with our queries and provide a swift check in by directing us to the self service check in machines.

We are sorry to learn you were disturbed by noise in our hotel during your stay Staceyeliz. We do ask our guests to be courteous of other guests and to ensure that they respect their noise levels; we also require hotel staff to regularly patrol the hotel. As a brand standard we do not provide toiletries in our rooms however should our guests forget to bring any items there is a vending machine at reception to purchase anything extra. We only provide one Wifi service from a provider called Arqiva, and customers may pay for the use of Wi-Fi for an hour, a day or for the week. Thank you for your feedback.

Stayed 2 (weekend) nights with friends.

GOOD POINTS
Cheap.

Location - Leicester Square, Oxford Street & Covent Garden all easy walking distance.

Staff were cheerful & pleasant by London standards.

Room was rather better cleaned and furnished than other Travelodges I have stayed in. The bed had little reading lights each side and there were plenty of plug sockets and towels.

There is a hotel bar with reasonable amount of seating.

Not disturbed by noise from other guests.

There are several cafes nearby for brunch/breakfast if you don't fancy eating there in the morning. Breakfast is £4-6 a few yards from the hotel, so bear this in mind when booking.

BAD POINTS
A large group of us block-booked several rooms several weeks in advance - there were no twin bed options, and when we got there, we were distributed over several floors rather than anywhere near one another.

No mobile network or data signal in the room. (Ground floor).

£10 for 24 hours access to the hotel WiFi - very poor value. Seems very 'convenient' that you can't get a mobile / data signal in the room, but stand outside your window 6 feet from the building, you get full signal?!?!

There is a red direct line phone in the lobby for a local taxi firm - don't use it! This is a rip off. The vehicle sent had no meter fitted, and charged double what a black cab charged our friends making the exact same journey at the exact same time.

You have to control the room temperature by varying the use of a window that only opens about 2 inches, and an electric heater on the wall - there is no thermostat. I wouldn't want to stay in the summer!

Sat at the bar for 10 minutes at 11am hoping to get a coffee. No staff in evidence, although 2 other guests were drinking pints of beer.

Lots of late & early noise from the road outside if you are on a lower floor facing Drury Lane.

It is of limited value as a base for a weekend shopping type trip as there is nowhere to leave bags on the day you depart, and the latest you can check out is 2pm - you have to pay a £10 fee for this, the standard time is 12.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room on a higher floor.

Stayed last weekend at the Travelodge Covent Garden on Drury Lane, Just for one night but it did the job, arrived at 13.15 but unless we paid £10.00 extra we could not have the room even though it was ready this is due to their check in policy ie after 2.30. The recepionist also said to leave any luggage until 2.30 would also have a charge of £10.00 in other words if you need to just pay and get into your room . As you might imagine basic but clean tv , Tea and Coffee were available with extra in reception if required. Its about a 10 min walk / stroll to all the theatre attractions and some decent bars and restaurants. All in All good weekend. We were on the 9th floor so didnt hear too much traffic or party people.

Room Tip: book in advance call them if you have a specific request 9th floor ok

Located in the heart of London like all Travelodge's you know what you are getting. The rooms were clean but quite small. The bed was comfy and there was a TV with the basic channels. There were no extras, hairdryer, shampoo etc although there was a kettle and some tea and freeze dried coffee.
The view was great though - looked out over London and the Eye.
Although we didn't have the breakfasts - they did look very good value for money. The hotel has wifi and a bar. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
As well as a reception they have machines for checking in which can save you time if there is quite a queue. You pay on arrival so checking out is quick and just a case of dropping off the key before you leave.
For the price and location it is good value for money - I have stayed in much worse places at more expensive prices.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are quite restrictive - little space to walk around the bed.

Thank you for your review JFHF, we are pleased to learn you found our rooms to be clean and comfortable. Unfortunately we do not provide hair dryers in the rooms however they can be borrowed from reception, subject to availability. Although we do not provide toiletries in the rooms, customers have the option to purchase toiletries from vending machines at reception should they need to, this allows us to continue to offer great rates in great locations.

Travelodge is extremely well located, right in the heart of London. Most theatres are a walking distance from the hotel and there are plenty of pubs around. The place is very close to Leicester Square, Piccadilly, Regent and Oxford street.

The room sizes are big compared to other London hotels. The English breakfast is average and is the same spread everyday. The rooms are basic with no amenities. They only provide towels and a soap though you can buy the shampoos from a vending machine on the ground floor. Also, there is no phone in the rooms which can be a hassle sometimes.

The Staff is nice and friendly and don't hesitate to change your room if you have any issues.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floor have good views of the city
