“You get what you pay for!”
Reviewed 8 March 2014 via mobile

Our room was in the attic. It was small and very very tired but clean. The bathroom was grotty, dirty grout, cracked tiles and the shower had been upgraded but the old one remained ..... well an open pipe remained!! There was lots of unsightly wiring in the hallway. On the plus side it was good value considering it was London and perfectly placed for sightseeing. Don't bother with adding breakfast on to your booking, there is a plethora of places to eat just around the corner.

Me and my sister stayed at the Ambassador Hotel last Friday for one night on room only basis. We needed somewhere cheap and central as we just needed somewhere to sleep after the theatre. We booked a twin room for just over £50 for both of us which is far below average for a London room on a Friday evening. We arrived earlier than the check in time but were checked in promptly and given our room details. The room was basic but clean, needed a bit of TLC in areas but was functional. The bath room was fairly small but had everything we needed. We both slept well at this hotel and wouldn't hesitate from staying here again.
The location being less than 5 mins walk from the tube station is a major bonus!

This hotel does the job if you are looking for somewhere basic, affordable and quite central to London and its attractions. I was staying here for a hen weekend. Two nights was enough for me. The room I stayed in had a rather shoddy look to it. The bath creaked and was rusty, the shower head was pathetic, there were badly filled holes in the walls and overall the room needed a complete overhall. It had tea and coffee facilities, some hanging space, a television and some complimentary soaps. We were rather perturbed by the beds that were fold away ones with brown blankets and, doing my Alex Polizzi impression, had no mattress protectors which was a little yukky! The receptionists were pleasant and helpful and booked us a cab without any problems. There is a Sainsbury's nearby which is useful but be warned, I bought some tampons and water and was stopped by reception and asked to 'pay for the extra bags', I argued with them and showed them the contents of my bag (embarrasing!) and they let me take it up to the room free of charge. I was frurious! Basic and a little crusty around the edges but ok for a night or two.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently refurbished room. OK for a night or two in London.

Last minute .com is where you will always find a room for this place so therefore don't expect much. Looks okay when you see the outside and the foyer looks nice. People on reception quite helpful. Positives? beds are comfortable albeit two singles pushed together for a double, and if you want twin as we did still pushed together but made up separately, because there would be no room to separate them. Plenty of hot water for shower or bath and was clean. Quite convenient for Exhibition Rd for the museums and the underground is close by. Negatives. Our room was very small, had to struggle to get by the bed to get in my side and overlooked a yard. The radiator wasn't on and there was only one thin brown blanket over the sheets. (no bed covers). We were very cold the first night. We asked for 2 more blankets in the morning, but when we got back in the evening I had to ask again and for the radiator to be turned on, which they did straight away. We went to Garfunkel's just along Cromwell Rd to eat as their food is great, £15 is far too much for a breakfast at this hotel. Overall I would say this is a 2-3 star accommodation, but they survive because they give the minimum and obviously depend on sites like last minute.com to supply cheap rates so I suppose you get what you pay for. We wouldn't stay there again, but it was adequate for 2 nights sleeping with no frills in very dated rooms that should really only be singles.

Room Tip: Check the size of room and outlook by phone before you go.

Hmm, definately we should have looked at the reviews before staying here for the night. Found it very basic, room was tiny, breakfast was tiny! Double bed was 2 singles together with a double sheet. TV was not much larger than a kindle! I suppose it did make the room appear larger then it was!
This definately was a 3 star but at 4 star prices! Reception area was probably the best looking part of the hotel!

Room Tip: Do your research before booking!

This is the first time I have visited and it wasn't in relation to work. Having stayed a number of times before I knew what to expect. Or so I thought. The rooms I have had in the past were of a decent size for London but was a little disappointed with the room this time. It was a little small in all areas including, especially, the bathroom. We couldn't fully open the bathroom door due to the toilet and the shower was a little confined with the shower curtain getting into the act whilst trying to wash. The room was a little tired in relation to the decor and also the double bed was in fact two singles pushed together. The fact that we were there only two nights and was only there to sleep didn't mean the need to raise issues. One issue I would raise is the fact that there was no extractor fan in the bathroom nor a smoke detector. Is that legal?

Room Tip: Avoid room 405

We spent a weekend in London but decided to go up a day early because of travel / weather problems. We found the *** Ambassadors Hotel on late booking .com for £40-00 (excl,. breakfast). It was easy to find, within a 10 minute walk from Gloucester Road tube station. The reception was fine and we were met by polite reception staff. Our room was in the basement. It was OK albeit very small. The bathroom, which did not have any heating, was also small and the wash basin minuscule. Fortunately, the shower was OK. The beds were comfortable and we had a good night’s rest. We decided not o take the Hotel’s breakfast (full English at £15-00) and instead had it in a nearby Garfunkel’s (£8-00 including tea etc.). So, nothing to get too excited about but if I had to pay more than the late booking rate I would have felt short-changed.
