We do appreciate we were amazingly lucky to get the river view for the lower price (I believe there are only 4 rooms in that price-class that look out onto the river), but everything about our stay was so amazing: the service: warm and friendly, 5 star without any snootiness, room tidying twice a day, turn-down service with clean bath-mats put out by the bed to step onto. Floor to ceiling windows that actually open to let the fresh river breeze in: just wonderful! The best English breakfast ever! The historic building has wonderful high ceilings in many of the rooms, a wall of windows looking through the plantain trees of the park to the Thames and the London Eye in our particular room and none of the mustiness older buildings sometimes suffer. It is the most central location (4 minutes walk to Embankment underground station) and amazingly quiet considering it is right in the heart of London. Clean, comfortable and pleasant, even for a self-admitted picky person like me. Just fantastic! Can't say enough positive things about it!

Room Tip: ask for a higher-up floor and a river view! the staff mentioned that August and Christmas are a good...

Ambience, style, food and staff were all top notch. We stayed on a Saturday night.
The room we were initially given was huge, but the view was awful, so I politely ask for another room if possible. Within 5 minutes the concierge was at our door with another room ready for us on the 5th floor, 559.

Although the new room was smaller, the view was great, over looking the wonderful surrounding architecture. The room has everything, even a TV in the shower - the only thing I would have liked would have been some slightly more modern - but thats just my personal taste.

The bed was super-comfortable, room-service was pricey but worth it and the included breakfast was very nice indeed.

Above all, the staff were amazing, polite and efficient.

Highly recommend.

My family and I decided a weekend getaway in London and chose this hotel for its location and reputation. We had an absolutely delightful stay. I travel for a living and stay in some wonderful hotels around the world, but this one will be at the top of every list I'd make. The location is wonderful (on the Thames, next to Waterloo/Embankment, close to London Eye, Westminster, and of course the Horse Guards parade at Whitehall), easy to get to and fro, the service in the hotel is superb, breakfast fresh and healthy with a wide variety and the rooms are in top condition with all amenities (including heated floors in the bathroom!). And if you talk to the concierge you can even investigate the history of the building and visit the Gladstone Library and see where the Liberals club was founded. I can't say enough good things about the place.

Only thing to watch out for is the afternoon tea. It is very popular and if you don't book it, you will be disappointed. Do check out the bar area, it is a bit out of view but once you get in there you will find it a relaxing lounge area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Thames and London Eye. And definitely walk up and down the stairs...

We are from USA and we stated 4 nights. Great location and free wifi. The tube is within walking distance. The breakfast offered several options and was Delishious! Staff were friendly and helpful. (Buy your London tower & London eye tickets from the concierge) We paid extra for the fast pass on the London Eye. (It was worth every penny)
