During a recent visit to London I stayed at Metropole Hilton. The location is great with excellent road and underground connectivity. Paddington is not too far from the hotel and lot of external eating places around. The room was really small and quite over priced from value perspective. The bathroom ventilation has not been upgraded for years. House keeping was efficient , rooms well maintained on a daily basis and decent sleep quality.

A unique feature about the room is an automatic sensor refrigerator that charges one even if you do not open it. The trick is that it is placed really close to the cot of an already cramped up room and small contact during movement causes the external cupboard and fridge to move and lo and behold there is a charge.

The hotel is certainly a disappointment for a Hilton and can do with an upgrade adding more contemporary facilities rather than ways to milk the customer. Rooms are very small but cozy hence the 3 star rating. By Hilton standards this is more a 2 star rating.

The Metropole is a large hotel, as others have mentioned. I stayed on the 9th floor of the west wing, which is a good ten minute walk and elevator ride from the main lobby. My room was clean, although their idea of having no feathers was to provide me two extra pillows. The bed itself was quite firm. In my room, at least, one could find both British and European power. Water pressure was just a little bit off, but not bad, considering that London often lacks pressure.
Breakfast, if included, is full English, with some continental. Dinner is also reasonable, but there is also quite good food in the area.

The hotel itself is across from the Edgeware Road Tube Station, and walking distance from Paddington, with easy access to the Bakerloo, District & Circle lines, as well as mainline service.

There were a few issues. The 1st floor hallway smelled like tobacco smoke. Rooms may be cleaned late in the day. The fire alarm went off in the middle of a meeting. Apparently the engineer was testing. On the other hand, there was always staff on hand to fix any big issue.

On the whole I expect more for my money, although not from Hilton, these days, I'm sad to say.

Location:

Ideal for me, as I can get around central London quickly. The executive lounge gets very busy which is a shame the size of the hotel could accommodate a much better exec lounge. It drives me nuts when they put me in the west wing and you have to walk to the east for the lounge – why?

Whiskey Lounge:
Great – excellent when your with clients or friends – massive improvement on what was there before.

Price:
Typical for the smoke.

Would I go back? Yes, and I do weekly.

On arrival i was allocated a smoking room, when i requested a non smoking room i was told the hotel was fully occupied and offered a free breakfast as "compensation" and an apology. The room was smelt disgusting and that was complemented by a dreadfully uncomfortable bed.... what a joyful experience...NOT!!!

so my partner booked this hotel for my surprise birthday trip, and needless to say I was not dissapointed! the staff were all extremely welcoming & friendly, the room was beautiful and of a very good size. Short walk to the tube station so extremely easy to reach all the attractions & shopping etc. Will definitely stay here when next visiting London.
