Great location close to Euston, Oxford St & West End. Room small but comfortable. Good breakfast. Certainly not worth the rack rate price but OK if you get a significant discount. Front desk staff always very helpful. A good alternative to the chain hotels.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

The property location is a point highlighted by most reviewers and I am glad you also found this useful during your stay with us.

We do have a variety of packages and room categories to suit everyone’s individual needs so please let my reservations team know during your next visit if a larger room is one of your requirements.

Thank you once again for your review.

Kind Regards

Andrew van Eeden

Today 3 friends and I, had Afternoon Tea at the Hotel. We had our tea in their Courtyard garden as the weather was good. We started with a nice glass of cold Prosecco then had our great Afternoon Tea, which was more than enough for the 4 of us.
The Staff were very pleasant and helpful, which made our visit more enjoyable. This was a special offer which we would, all recommend.

Lovely boutique hotel with two secluded courtyard gardens, perfect.
The location was very good not far from Goodge Street and walking distance down to to the edge of Covent Garden, Shatesbury Avenue and Oxford Street all a comfortable walk.
We had a suite which was very well appointed in every way. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room quiet.
Staff very helpfull, all in all a different kind of hotel, to stay in London.
Highly recommended.

I needed a single room for a last minute overnight stay in London around Bloomsbury area and found The Academy Promoted as a high class small hotel in Gower Street . The deal for a single room suggested I might save over £200 for the room if I booked with them . This seemed to good to be true. Indeed it was .

The single room was small , no air conditioning ( fan available ) , dimmed energy saving bulb lights left room gloomy , the bar was deserted and no internal telephone directory so when I needed to call during the night I had to phone the external number .

I had booked for breakfast but needed to leave early but no rebate offered .

Staff were pleasant and helpful though .

My experience was rather like living in digs in University . Generally had no feel as a hotel or guest house .

Overall below average stay for the tariff.

Room Tip: Avoid single rooms

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

I was disappointed to read your review and comments. It sounds like you booked an extremely good deal very late on the day of your arrival which is not uncommon for most London hotels. As a boutique hotel with only 49 bedrooms, last minute offers are calculated to appeal in a tasteful manner.

Our single rooms are in line with other hotels in London if not better sized and fit for purpose which is normally a corporate stay. Our double rooms and suites offer more space which is available if this is a requirement during your stay.

I am sorry if the porter than showed you to your room did not highlight the rooms directory in which you would have been able to find all internal and required external contact details.

Kind Regards

We stayed for 1 night on be. The room was big and clean. The bed was a bit too firm. Bathroom was very spacious and clean with a stand alone roll top bath and separate shower cubical. The staff were very friendly. Location is great a few mins walk from Tottenham Court Road.
Would definitely stay again.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

You will be hard pushed to find more spacious rooms in London and I am glad you enjoyed this feature. I have actually just purchased new beds throughout the property which will be delivered in the next two weeks - hopefully you can enjoy them on your next visit.

We stayed at the Academy and were most impressed by the charm and style of this London hotel. It has beautiful sophisticated interiors and very comfortable bedding; with a luxurious and homely feeling in the centre of London. Rooms on the back promise peace and tranquility in Bloomsbury; a stone's throw from the British Museum. Service was second to none with very thoughtful, well turned out and well-informed staff. We really could not recommend this hotel more highly. We will be sticking with the Academy for sure.

Having seen some of the recent reviews on Tripadvisor I feared the worst and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived with a Travelzoo voucher today. We were seated in the library and enjoyed that to ourselves. Service was attentive but not overbearing which allowed my friend and I to spend 2 1/2 hours enjoying the selection of nice, fresh sandwiches (4 fillings, not shop bought); warm homemade scones, fruity strawberry jam and cream, a nice selection of petit fours. Two pots of tea and a glass of prosecco each. My friend is a chef and I am a cook. We voted the experience as very satisfactory and great value. Yes, the decor could do with an update. For a budget, family hotel in Central London it meets the standard as far as we could see.
