“Nice but overpriced”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Stayed here on a Friday evening for one night.

Check-in was relatively efficient, albeit initially rather impersonal (I get the impression they would rather everyone would/could use their computerised system in the lobby).

There were unfortunately no drinks in the lobby, although that was obviously a one-off thing, but not ideal after a long journey down to the capital.

Room was perfectly serviceable, bathroom clean and tidy. Can't complain about any aspect of the venue, in general; but the cost in general is reflective of somewhere nicer (it felt very much similar quality to a Premier Inn in terms of room standard, which is perfectly adequate but I would suggest not what the hotel chain is aspiring to).

Also, windows overlook offices, so you need to close curtains etc before showers or anything else!

As I say in the title this hotel is not for me. I booked two rooms for a Saturday night in town with the family. The hotel reception is so small that when we arrived we had to keep moving during our registration in order to let people in and out. The young man who checked us in was polite and in fact checked us in early, thank you. We were then told that we would actually be on two different floors, thank goodness for mobile phones. After registration we then had to dodge the pillars in order to reach the lifts, and went to our respective rooms. Although there were messages everywhere stating that some refurbishments were in progress, I did not expect wall paper hanging from walls, open wall linings and ripped, ragged carpets everywhere. Especially having paid full price for the rooms. Bedroom one, my bedroom, on the small side but did have a double bed with two bedside tables. Had to move the office chair so my partner could walk around the bed to reach bathroom etc. small but adequate bathroom, only one set of shower gel etc for a double room. When will these places learn there will be two people in the room. Bedroom two, my sister in laws room, was classed as a double and had a double bed, but could only get to one side of the bed. Again the bathroom was on the small side. No instructions were given for the heating and air con and this resulted in a very hot uncomfortable night in bed, having to open windows to breath. On checking out the hotel very kindly locked our cases away, as we had a later train to catch, but on return the room was opened and I was told "your cases are in there somewhere, you can find them". Good job I am honest because I think I could have walked out with any three cases.
Would I recommend this hotel? NO

We booked this place to show Galena's sister London for the very first time, she was not disappointed and in fact never stopped taking photographs. When returns to Russia she will be top of the class - all it took was a great location to explore from and the rest was easy. - simples!

Having driven down to pick up from Heathrow the drive into London was quite easy just follow the signs and then look hard and take you time to find the hotel, maybe best to look for Leadenhall and it is right opposite.

The room was fine, ready for a makeover, some were in progress but as this was just a base it was fine, comfy beds and a small galley kitchen for warming food if needed. We parked at a municipal car park - Baynard just over £30 for two nights. The hotel is very well situated to explore all over the place, just 10 mins walk from monument (great fire of. London) 20 mins from The tower/bridge and pier to take the Thames water bus to Westminster, a further 5 mons walk to St Katherine's dock - very peaceful and full of history, All Hallows' church and St Paul's all within easy walking distance. It would be better to say just mark up a map and walk everywhere in the immediate vicinity.

We arrived on a Friday at about 7 so the city workers were in full bar party mode, our vision was well impressed, the contrast over the weekend is amazing as all the lovely Basra fall silent.

Anyhow, if you want to explore London this is a fine place to start with bags of history and fine buildings, still feel sad about Paternoster row though, it is a vibrant part of the capital and easily the best for access to all points of the compass whether east or west end.

Book early and get up early and get walking you need to see the greatest city on earth by far, I always feel invigorated when I come there and my two lovely visitors were in awe!

Room Tip: Top floor to get up to the sky, inner or outer it matters not- you will be out all the time anyhow...

Good location, walk 5 mins to Liverpool station, 40 mins to Buckingham Palace. Room was small and bathroom was small but that was expected. Staff was lovely and helpful, got a microwave brought up on request. They even ordered our dinner for us as we can't hear over the phone. Would stay again.

Friday and Saturday night stay while catching up with friends elsewhere in London.
This is a former HSBC Bank building that has been converted to a hotel. Impressive exterior leads to rather cramped reception area, which in turns leads to a lobby area which, as a previous reviewer mentioned, is a bit like an airport lounge. You can obtain free tea and coffee in this area, which is no doubt useful for business clientele for working or meeting associates. Bedroom reasonable size although bathroom on the compact size.Comfortable bed, My room was on one of the upper floors with views of modern London architecture such as the "Gerkhin" and "Cheesegrater". These are useful landmarks if you are walking back to the hotel! Certainly pretty quiet, soundproofing seemed effective, although this area is busier during the week. Furnishings and decoration probably best described as "traditional". I'd expect leisure travellers can often get reasonable rates at weekends when business travellers are scarce, but bear in mind that much of the vicinity closes down at this time, including Leadenhall Market which is bang opposite. However there are several transport links within walking distance including Underground stations at Monument, Bank and Liverpool Street while the latter and Fenchurch Street provide main line connections. Buses run from outside the hotel. It is fairly easy to walk to theTower of London or cross London Bridge to the famous Borough Market. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast (not included) is served in an adjacent pub, but I did not use this facility. Very well located for business visitors and definitely worth considering for weekend guests who do not mind staying outside the West End.

Excellent location in the heart of the City. The lobby area is compact but well organised, with space to work, relax and free coffee/fruit etc - somewhat in the manner of an airline lounge. The upper corridors of the hotel are labyrinthine and very tatty - wallpaper coming off the walls, carpets stained. It appears that refurbishment is in progress and this is overdue. The room I stayed in was also quite tired with a drab view onto an inner building void. On the other hand, free wifi, perfectly clean and adequate bathroom, a big desk to work at, and a bed which was comfortable and air conditioning that worked was pretty good value for this location. So if you can grab a cheap deal and just need a functional place to stay in a central London location it could be worth it. But I think that there are probably better options out there. Certainly not anywhere I'd take anyone for a romantic weekend away. But the staff were efficient and friendly and the price was decent.

We stayed here on a short trip to London. Average hotel 10 mins walk from Monument and Bank tube stations. Would have been an OK stay except wife had her face attacked by bed bugs. This hotel needs to do a better job keeping its rooms clean. Stay away if you can!
