“Magnificent view with magnificent service”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

We arrived at 10 am and were immediately taken to our room rather than getting the standard response that check in is at 2pm. The room faced London Tower and the Thames was beckoning a boat trip. We were able to see The Shard. We enjoyed our weekend stay very much and would definitely recommend it. The XI bar is wonderful as well.

Room Tip: Must get a room facing the Tower and enjoy.

Due to engineering works, I decided to stay here due to its location. That is all it has going for it. The reception is nice, but my room on floor 8 was huge disappointment. On a par with a Travel Lodge but way more expensive. I have used other hotels in the chain which are far superior, pleased to leave very early, having spent 12 hours in the hotel that was enough. Not one I shall be using again.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

This is an excellent hotel with incredible views of Tower Bridge, the Shard and the Thames.
Although the hotel isn't much to look at from the outside the staff, facilities and views are top notch. The restaurant prices are reasonable and the food is good.
Conveniently located right next to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and within walking distance of the Shard and the Gherkin. It is also only minutes from Tower Hill underground station on the District and Circle lines. My only gripe is that my particular room looked a little dated and in need of a freshen up but the room had all the amenities you could wish for and since you'll spend most of your time looking out of the window it makes no real difference.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor Tower view room

We stayed here for the 3 nights over the easter weekend and must say our stay was quite average and we wouldnt go back again, its meant to be a 4star hotel and yes it might have been in the 1970's but looking very tired and dated in the rooms its reception, service and restaurants are faultless but everything else is lacking. We checked in on a friday for me to discover that both hairdryers in the rooms didnt work so I asked for another one coz frankly a woman cant always do wthout one which they did replace then there was an issue of the heating not working and the room was cold so they put an extra heater in there but then for us to discover as I was gettin in the shower there was no hot water!! Arghhhhh! I have never had to complain about anything before in previous hotels but by this time I was not happy, they had to move us to another room which ill give them there due's it was a suite but this room was cold too. We put this down to the windows being old, drsughty and the heating not kicking out heat which is probably like most of the hotel. In comparrison to the double tree by hilton we stayed in last time there really is no competition..if your staying there remember to wrap up warm in your room

Easy to reach, with parking underneath the hotel makes is easily accessible. Another quality stay in London, so easy to explore and beds that are so comfortable I never want to leave.
Always friendly and welcoming, only down side is there are never any taxis available in the evening, although the doormen were working hard in obtaining some last night.

Stayed overnight whilst on business in London. Hotel is okay and well located. Room was in need of some upgrading e.g. curtains partly falling off their rail, bathroom looked 'aged' and carpet threadbare in places. For nearly £200 per night it could be better but staff pleasant, comfy bed and room service quick and good, tasty food.

I stayed here as part of a weekend package - my second stay. Admittedly the exterior of the hotel is rather unprepossessing - grey concrete and an entrance road designed entirely without pedestrians in mind. But this hides comfortable, clean rooms and excellent staff within.

Being a solo traveller, I've been fortunate on both occasions to be allocated a room with a river view, though the view over the dock is equally picturesque with its collection of Thames Barges, so no complaints on that score.

The room was well equipped, spotlessly clean - though I think the guest information pack could benefit from some instructions on how to work the air conditioning for dullards like myself who manage to heat up the room rather than cool it down! A quick word with the helpful reception team identified my error, however, and comfort was restored.

Breakfast was, as is to be expected in a hotel of this type, varied and abundant. Being an early riser, getting seated and fed was a quick affair, with attentive staff offering hot drinks, and plenty of options for all tastes.

The Tower is perfectly located for - obviously - the Tower, as well as Tower Bridge. Tube (District and Circle lines) and DLR links are nearby, as well as bus services to more central locations, so there's plenty of options for other sights around London. Water services also leave from Tower Pier.

Similarly, for those who want to eat out, there are lots of options nearby, particularly around St Katherine's Dock, so you are not tied to the Brasserie for dinner. There's even a Tesco Express around the corner if you just want a quick sandwich.

As this was part of a package, I can't comment on the individual value for money aspect of the hotel, and I suspect that, in other circumstances, it might be a bit out of my budget range. It is, however, a great place to treat oneself to on a weekend, so I plan to indulge again in the future!
