“Room was vile.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

We bought a house last year, that had not been decorated since the 70s. Staying at the Guoman last night brought back painful memories. After having spend 10 minutes in total shock. staring at the single bed in my $500 per night room, the stained carpets, dodgy shower curtain (yes, what hotel still does have shower curtains, really!), I went downstair to complain.

The staff were nice enough to calm me down, offer me a glass of water and listen to me ranting loudly. I was offered a more 'recently' (sic) refurbished room with a double bed instead.

The room was still tired and old, and during whatever number of refurbishments it had experienced, clearly was painted over and over in layers. The resulting thick layering of colourings was holding on for dear life and in many areas had given up the pretence of being stuck to the wall. It only took for me to turn on the air-conditioning (yes, some modern 20th century amenities have even made it to the Guoman), for little particles of (no doubt lead containing) paint to start their airborne floatation around the room and finally settle like dandruff in the worn-down carpet.

The next morning, I had another slight disagreement with the shower, which for no apparent reason decided to change the temperature of the water to boiling, forcing me to jump out, pulling down the shower curtain with me as a result, with the shampoo still in my hair and eyes.

Next time, I would rather stay at the Bates Motel.

Booked this hotel as a package for two nights ,with a show ( The Bodyguard, worth seeing.). Very pleased with the staff and the food at the hotel .Good Breakfast. Very close to the tube station with a perfect location to see the sights of London. Room standard OK, you must be realistic for the price we paid it was clean and basic ,but fine. Nice touch was free ice from the reception to the room which was fab on a hot day. If I had one moan it would be the price of food and wine at the restaurant, cheapest rose wine £23,steak £27,so we ate and drank away from hotel .shame would have eaten at hotel if better value .overall great break ,would book again and will be back.

I attended a board meeting and 40th company anniversary conference at this Hotel. The outside of the Hotel has not undergone any refurbishment since the property was built back in the 1990's. The lobby is big and fairly modern, but the rooms are old and some very small. The quality of the food served at the conference was mediocre, but very good value for money.

Hotels in this part of London are not cheap because it's where tourism meets overnighting City workers, but given the proximity to all the attractions at this end of Town and the splendid views, The Tower is an ideal location. The building is traditional mid 20thC and the exterior could really do with a make-over or at least a lick of paint, but the rooms are clean and well provisioned, although to nit-pick better biscuits would be welcome. Towels are not fluffy but neither do they rub you raw. At £12 the buffet breakfast with its wide range of hot and cold choices is good value but if you're on a budget there are plenty of places nearby that are a lot cheaper - Wetherspoons is just across Tower Hill. Some people may find the St. Catherine's Dock.views a bit disappointing but in any other place you'd see reviews call them 'charming' and 'picturesque'; it's just another part of the area and it does have some super eating venues which you can pick from your bedroom! The check-in staff are efficient and pleasant, which must be a strain when the place is busy and they are hosting conferences as well as dealing with a constant stream of visitors. Overall you could pay a lot more and get a lot less in the City and deny yourself the spectacular views.

Room Tip: Floor 8 and above give the best views. New to London? Go for a Bridge View - sometimes they're...

The appearance of this hotel is unfortunate it’s a bit of an eyesore but it is in a wonderful spot, I have stayed here many times it’s very conveniently sited and the car park arrangement is simple and good value, parking on-site in a London hotel is very advantageous also it’s outside the congestion zone so no messing with that business, we had a few unfortunate issues during our stay the safe didn’t work the room was only half cleaned and I had to stir my tea with a toothbrush handle, all complaints dealt with and apologises made from a genuine customer relations staff member, I can’t help but like this place the bars great and if the sun is out then enjoy the outside space will I return ,,, YES !!! in a heartbeat Its one of my Favourite London Hotels Love It!!!

Room Tip: River View is a premium price but the view across to St Katharines dock is cheaper and I reckon near...

We booked a citytrip to London, after a hassle free flight with EasyJet and quick transfer from the Airport we arrived at the hotel. Check-in went smooth, very friendly staff, and we got offered a free upgrade to an Executive Twin room.

The room was very clean, excellent bed, slept like a baby, the Executive rooms have a mini bar which you can have refilled for free once a day. An espresso machine was also available and we also had access to the Club Lounge where you can have a complimentary continental breakfast overlooking Canary Warf / St. Katherine's Docks. Breakfast was good, nothing special but everything you need is right there and the staff is always willing to help.

The Underground is +- 5 minutes away which is a big plus if you want to discover London.

We didn't have dinner in the hotel but instead went to restaurants close to the hotel, there is also a Tesco Express (open until 12PM), ATM and a Starbucks nearby.

We went to do some sightseeing on our final day and had a late check-out at 2PM (for people with an Executive room or higher), when we returned to the hotel at 1PM we couldn't get into our room with our cards, but a quick visit to the front desk solved this straight away.

This was my first time in London and it was superb, obviously the free upgrade to an Executive room was a big plus, and seeing the advantages it has I wouldn't mind paying a little more next time to have the extra facilities.

Adjacent to St katharine's dock with choice of eateries, handy for cruise down to Greeenwich and for trip to Parliament. Visited Covent Garden and Marble Arch shops. Ate round the corner, plenty of choice.

Room Tip: No noise noticed. had view of river, others had view of dock
