The hotel was very easy to find. A pleasant surprise. In a quiet area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable as was the rest of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was all u could want. We wouldn't hesitate to use it again

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view of the shard. It really was a picture window

What I liked most about this hotel is the location. it is close to Old St, Barbican and Angel.
We stayed here during a weekend and the surroundings was calm and quiet. We enjoyed this as the areas we visited in London was pretty hectic.

The rooms in this hotel are a little dated but clean and has the standard fuctionalitly of an average hotel room.

Their breakfast is a buffet and has all the standard selection. The children enjoyed the selection.

Overall we would come back to this hotel, but it would not be our first choice.

A lovely hotel, is tucked away and a short walk from Old Street tube, very helpful staff, got a good deal on their website of £109 incl breakfast for a standard double room. Asked for an upgrade, which we got as a premium double was available. Lovely room, comfy bed, fabulous hot shower and the breakfast next morning was superb. So much choice and variety, very tasty. I recommend this hotel if you are only using the room for sleep and then off early next morning.

While the room could have done with a little updating I probably had the best sleep I've had in a while. I was particularly impressed with the service, having had a few issues initially all were resolved promptly and professionally!

late review , visited in july over Wimbledon weeks' had a room in the original part which was fine, clean reasonably modern ok bathroom and windows that opened. View is of a council estate literally over the road , many are prob bought because it is so close to the city, but this was a really rough part of London and at night i felt that vibe.

my friend she had a room in the new part, security was not evident or at all on the front door, doors left open so pass code not needed - not good and hotel room windows didn't open so her room was roasting hot and she looked ill the next morn as a direct result , her rooms was stretching distance from someone's balcony on the estate so may be why windows didn't open.

Bar was ok staff were nice but silly prices.

Few shops at the end of the hotel but a bit rough and bottom end , kids hanging outside on bikes spitting and being a nuisance ..

Restaurant was the worst, a t 8pm they hovered around people for a good hour, hovering the carpets . pizza was from the chain "Chicago" , i asked as joke was it part of the frozen chicago chain whioch normally sells in supermarkets frozen cabinets at around 2.00 per med pizza , told yes and sold at around 11.00 pp but had run out as frozen delivery not arrived. I then chose to not eat and get snacks from the local shops restaurant had no respect.

Bfast however was excellent and geared to the leisure traveller . even had a omelette man, most guests appeared corporate apart from omelette noting else cooked to order just buffet but fine .

Area is not good, I don't care how anyone hypes it up it is in a very deprived/ poor area of london and a long long walk if you can find the damm hotel from the tube. Shoreditch the area it now associates itself with is ok if you have a black cab and plenty of money otherwise it is a rough as a dogs backside and very ethnic , not quite as trendy as the east side of newy york so plenty of risk factors at night
I lived near here for 14 years so am telling u the truth , def no good for females late at night on their own.
only reason i would go back to this area and by cab is to go to the Rivington Grill restaurant which is shoreditch .

Cabs are outside go for the black cab as concierge called a private one and it cost 15 pound to the angel tube without traffic which is about miles clearly backhanders going on.

lastly this area is a massive council/social housing area .it is unsafe and I would not suggest tourist going hear and def females . you have to go around or cross through the estate to get anywhere, gang crime is high in this area.
would never return

I paid over 150 pn for this experience.

Dear Sassy
Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at the Thistle City Barbican
We are situated in a very interesting area of London in close proximity to the city and within easy walking distance to 3 underground stations for easy access around the capital. We are located in an area of social and private housing and as anywhere in London you have to be vigilant traveling late at night whether male or female .I personally walk in this area to and from work and feel comfortable .
I would like to thank you for your feedback and observations
Best Wishes
Jane

Stayed here for 3 nights on business. It's great for the city 20 minute walk, 5/10 in a cab.

The hotel itself has a decent gym and leisure centre. But it's strange how they appear to have spent their money. The public areas are very modern and up to date. Add to that a Decent bar area, good restaurant etc. had the breakfast 1 day £18.95 is a bit steep but all you can eat buffet so if you go hungry not bad value.

The rooms are comfortable but very old and in need of updating, I am talking varnished wood etc, not in touch with the other areas.

I had to move rooms as at first I had a room on the 1st floor on the main road. Traffic noise I accept, it's central London after all, but hearing peoples heels clicking I draw the line at. I asked to be moved and was accommodated no issue. 2nd room was better although still needed updating.

Staff were good and I would stay here again. Not high end business hotel but not bad.

All in all it definitely maintains it's rating but probably does not reach the next level.

Lovely clean rooms and comfortable beds. staff on reception were very helpful. Food was very good but waiting staff need to be more attentive to their customers . This was reflected in the emptiness of the restaurant .......this let the hotel down and we chose to eat elsewhere the next day!
