This is the second time I've stayed at the Strand Palace. The first time was in 2004 and I had a good experience so I decided to book a 3-night stay in a single room. The hotel was recently refurbished and is a nice hotel. Since this was a single room it is small but as a single traveler I didn't need a bigger room. The room and bathroom were fresh and clean. I will say I thought it was odd I had to use a bath mat in the shower. I'm glad I carry a small packet of antibacterial wipes with me because I wiped done the shower mat. I might be a little paranoid about the mat. I can't believe after the refurb of the hotel they didn't add air conditioning but the room had a fan and worked very well.

The hotel is around the corner from Covent Gardens, down the street from several theaters, Trafalgar Square, and about a mile from the London Eye/Southbank. For me this is the perfect location. I will be staying here in the future!!

Stayed for business for two nights in July, and had the smallest room i've ever stayed in facing an inner courtyard, it was made far worse by no a/c.

Its a simple stopover hotel in a great location don't expect much else. The staff were uncourteous at check in which set the trend for my two day stay.

The location is everything for this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a street facing room.

Great location and staff. Good breakfast with plenty to choose from. Rooms are very fresh and clean but no air conditioning. also very pokey rooms that are very stuffy and struggle to get any air movement. The little fan in the wardrobe does very little to help.

We spent three nights at the Strand Palace and found it excellent for the theatres and service. The room could have been bigger but it was well equipped, quiet and had a good bathroom. For a big hotel there was no queue for breakfast and the food on offer was great. Without exception the staff were courteous and helpful and the afternoon tea is the best value in the area. We will go again......soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the outside of the building but not on the Strand. Try the afternoon tea.

The staff were warm and welcoming in every way. The room was well appointed with the addition of well designed wooden shutters to effectively keep out the London street noise. The staff in the lobby did all they could to help with close attention to detail to give that added degree of service. The only thing to let them down was the over busy rushed nature of breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask Mohammad.

Sometimes it helps to compare a place to somewhere you may know. For the New Yorkers reading this (or visitors who've stayed here) it is like the Millford Plaza Hotel in Times Square. Its large, basic furnishings, clean enough but without any real style or personality. The hotel gets anything from young independent travelers to old retirees. The concierge is extremely helpful giving real advice and help in navigating the various busses and ways about town. But it is the location that is the best thing about this hotel. You are steps from Covent Garden with the shops, restaurants and cultural attractions. A quick walk across the Waterloo bridge to the National Theater, and a short trot to the heart of the West End. The buses along the Strand connect you to easily and there is even free entry to the Virgin gym across the street. If you book in advance and pre-pay you can often get excellent rates that make it a good choice for all the plusses.

Room Tip: Ask the front desk for passes to the Virgin Gym across the street.

Stayed here as part a package provided by my company.

We were issued room 221. This hotel is massive. Double paned windows keep the noise out. I like the use of shutters instead of curtains to shut out the light. Our room overlooks the building next door. Bathroom amenities include the usual shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, soap, hair dryer and towels. Our room contained two single beds and was spacious and was pretty comfortable. There was in-room coffee/tea making facilities as well as some biscuits. Two complimentary bottles of water were provided along with free WiFi though I’m not sure if both were part of the regular room rate or provided through my company’s negotiated rates.

Very centrally located.
