“Location, Location”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Stayed here for only 1 night and after sorting out the issue of no air-con in our room (we were provided with a room with air-con after querying it) the property suited our needs.
The room was quite large (on level 7); aircon worked great; breakfast had a large variety; clean, neat and tidy. The location of the Strand Palace Hotel is perfect if you only have 24 hours in London. It is in walking distance to the all the popular attractions.
Make sure you hang the "Do not Disturb" sign out the night before or else house keeping will knock on your door in the morning, to check if you've left so they can attend to your room.
All staff were polite and helpful.
The elevators were "cosy" and a little slow. The beds were comfortable and we had an awesome nights' sleep.
I would stay here again, if a decent deal was available.

This review is purely on the Carvery and the staff that served us as I did not stay overnight in the hotel. I ate here last Friday (June 27th) as part of a large group before we went to see a show. The seafood starter was ok, the Carvery was bland (peas and sweetcorn tasted like they were out of a tin and the carrots had no taste whatsoever) The main reason for my review was regarding the staff in the Carvery restaurant that served us. Not one cracked a smile and when I asked for a pitcher of tap water for the table the lady came round and filled a small un-used wine glass, no pitcher turned up even though I asked again, other tables had the same issue. I didn't bother with the dessert but from other people's comments, it wasn't good. The tables were crammed together and the wine that was generously paid for by our firm (we were told we could have one glass of white or Red each) was topped up three times to some and others were told no you can't have more than one. The décor was nice and the Hotel looked quite nice, a real pity the food and restaurant staff didn't meet the same standard.

We stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago, we had seen it was being refurbished and wanted to try it again. We booked on Thursday and stayed on Saturday night. We felt the price for the room and breakfast was reasonable. The location was excellent for our visit to the Savoy theatre and travelling from Charing Cross station on Sunday am (being able to leave our suitcase in left luggage and collecting on the way back to Kings Cross) It was nice to return from the theatre having seen a very good show and have a quiet drink in the "gin lounge" We chose the "petite cosy double" for the price, accepting that it had a double bed next to the wall! The room was clean and comfortable with enough storage, including safe, toiletries, kettle etc. We noticed there wasn't any air conditioning but that wasn't a problem on a cooler night, although there was an electric fan in the wardrobe, and lets be honest - how often in England do we need air conditioning? The breakfast was excellent, the staff organised the seating well and we didn't have to wait even though there were lots of people around, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated for Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square and the bus stops are near the hotel. Altogether this contributed to our lovely weekend.

I really cannot fault this hotel. My room was on the sixth floor and faced the Strand. The room was a good size and included two tub chairs, a desk and a large tv. It was all super clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no air con, but I knew this before booking and a fan is provided, so I didn't find this a problem. The staff were very helpful, my bag was stored at no extra cost before check in and upon checking out, the friendly and helpful staff offered to sort out my luggage or a taxi. Overall I had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

We would be happy to return to this hotel. Our room did not have an air conditioner. If you stay here in the middle of summer then I would recommend that you pay extra for an air conditioned room. The room was of reasonable size and the bathroom was clean. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of selections. There was a safe in the room. The location was good-5 minutes walk to Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross Station. Staff were good.

The location is brilliant. The rooms are adequate for the the price and location. The rooms also include extras such as shampoo etc. I'm amazed that people ae complaining about the hotel; location and price wise it's great value. For those who want the better quality, the Ritz is just across the road. ;)

I stayed a week at the strand Palace on a solo leisure trip in June.
i had previously stayed at the hotel about 10 years ago and noticed mant improvements. Most of the hotel has been renovated recently. The high points are the location near Trafalgar and covent Garden and the many bus routes with stops close to the hotel. breakfast is excellent. The low points are the hot rooms in warm weather with windows that open about 6 inches. They do provide a fan but on days above 70 degrees, it's HOT. The other negative is the front desk staff. Most are obnoxious and will try to charge you every pound possible so carefully check your bill.

Room Tip: suggest you request a room on lower floor away from those facing street. They will be cooler and le...
