“another great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2012

Just returned from another great stay at The Milestone - was traveling to London alone this time and booked a queen bedded room- I was given a beautiful king room facing Kensington Gardens- the desk was situated in a dormer with a round window- just a great space to use my computer-internet connection is excellent- again, wonderful, friendly service- also The Milestone is kid friendly - my 2 year old grandson comes to visit and he always gets a warm welcome plus the doormen lift the stroller up and down the stairs with nice greeting and a smile

I highly recommend The Milestone Champagne Afternoon Tea. A selection of finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones with Devonshire clotted cream with a pot of tea of your choice, starting with a bottle of chilled Champagne in historical and elegant surroundings. You don't have to stay in the hotel, but wisely book a table. You will never forget you went there! 2 minutes walk from Kensington High Street!

This hotel was recommended by an English friend and was his residence when he sold his house (there are also apartments here ). Very low key, understated elegance and staff. I had a beautiful room facing Kensington Palace and the street but it was fairly quiet though a little cramped with a view of the lawn. My friend took a basement room that had a large dressing area for her and her daughters. Nice size but one small window. The food was good and the rate included breakfast and some other perks at the time. This is owned by the Red Carnation group who has several hotels in London. Located on the High Street with a Whole foods and branch store of top shop in Kensington. If you want to feel like a very pampered resident, across from the Duke and Duchess then this is the place for you, It is like being in a townhouse so if you expect big, touristy and bedazzling this is not the place. It is elegant, understated and in the "right" neighborhood. Perfect for a mother daughter trip or romantic weekend or long term stay. First class and lovely in a residential area. An English experience.

Room Tip: ask where the room faces and how big the roomis because each room is very different.

Thank you for reviewing The Milestone Hotel

I am delighted that you took up your friends recommendation and more so that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are privy to a very special location with Spectacular view of Kensington Palace Gardens and future neighbours of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. There is shopping a plenty to be had in the local High Street as I noticed you have mentioned as well. I am happy that you enjoyed our warm and relaxing ambiance.

If you've been following my other reviews on The Milestone it will come as no surprise to you to learn that the afternoon tea at The Milestone is also a very pleasant affair. We opted to have a glass of Champagne before we started on the tea itself and used this moment to take in our surroundings whilst we sipped the Champagne from the stylish tulip style Champagne glasses The Milestone uses. The nicest part about the lounge atmosphere at The Milestone is that it's like being invited by the owner of a period house to tea in his personal library - complete with roaring log fire. The Lounge here is not big so you'd definitely need to book ahead to be sure of securing a place. There is an extensive tea menu, so there will definitely be a tea to suit everyone's mood. The sandwiches are tasty, there is a great selection of cakes and by the time they bring on the warm scones, jam and clotted cream you will definitely have had to have missed lunch in order to totally finish everything that is brought to your table. The service is unhurried so it's a very restful and sedate affair too. Whilst tea at The Ritz is a grand London "theatrical" experience, if you're in the Kensington area, however, you'd be unwise to miss out on this "must do" timeless English tradition contained within a very English period townhouse setting.

Our first time at The Milestone Hotel and truly a wonderful experience. Very good service with attention to details. A luxurious but cosy atmosphere, you feel at home the moment you enter the hotel. We stayed in a deluxe king bedroom (couple and child 7 y.o.). Great breakfast and afternoon tea. Kind attention for our child.

Thank you for reviewing The Milestone Hotel

I am delighted to read that you and your family had such a great time with us. We do like to take extra special care of our junior guests, it can be daunting being in a foreign country so we go out of our way to make them feel welcome and at home. I am happy that you found your Deluxe King room to your satisfaction and enjoyed your breakfast so much.

I do look forward to welcoming you back again soon though.

Having previously stayed at sister properties 41 Hotel, Rubens, and most recently at Egerton House Hotel, this hotel was very good, clearly five star calibre, but we did not have the same consistently exceptional experiences as we did at 41 and Egerton. Perhaps it was because we were staying over Christmas, but more on that to come. First, the positives...

Positives: Milestone Hotel is in a wonderful location, right across from Hyde Park and just down the street from all the great shopping in Kensington. There are several of the city bike rental stations nearby (highly recommended for exploring the parks). The hotel is beautiful and historic, with very impressive common areas; the lounge and conservatory are especially cozy. When we arrived, we were greeted with glasses of champagne, a room upgrade (part of Leaders Club membership), and butler Fran O'Hanlon--who was great--gave us a personal tour of the hotel prior to showing us our room. The room and bathroom were both spacious by London standards and very well furnished. Our room was filled with little welcome gifts including fruit, baked goods, chocolates, a gift box of tea, bottled waters, and hand-written welcome notes. Nightly turndown service, with different goodies each evening, was a great touch. On Christmas Day, we received a stocking from Santa filled with a number of little his and hers gifts. Truly lovely!

Improvement Areas: While relaxing in a public area of the hotel, I was surprised to overhear two employees complaining at length about having to work on Christmas, how much the hotel required them to work in general, and having "Christmas Depression". While perfectly understandable, I felt this was not great form to do in front of hotel guests. Other minor issues: The bathroom tub had a very slow drain, even after removing the stopper. The in-room DVD player was not functioning correctly (persistent skips, discoloration, and sound issues). There were a couple of inconsistencies between the published and actual restaurant operating hours and menu choices. For example, we arrived at the hotel restaurant thirty minutes before published closing hours on Christmas Eve Day and were told that breakfast was shutting down momentarily (though we were still graciously seated and fed). Also, risotto was listed on the room service menu, but was told it had been taken off the menu when we called in our order. Granted, these are incredibly minor, nitpicky issues which, independently, are barely worth noting. However, collectively, they did differentiate the experience we had staying at the Milestone from our experiences staying at 41 and Egerton.

Overall: We would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family members, but only after recommending sister properties 41 Hotel and Egerton House Hotel. Milestone is clearly an excellent five star hotel, and it has all the familiar elements of the standout service we have come to love about the Red Carnation Hotels. However, our experience of that excellence felt less consistent than it did at the aforementioned two RCH properties, leaving us with a very good, but not standout, experience.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your detailed review of The Milestone Hotel

I was very happy to read about your positive experience during our warm welcome and have passed your praise on to Fran, who was very grateful for the nice comment. I am also happy that you enjoyed your amenities and that Santa visited you during your time in The Milestone.

I have noted your comments about the in room DVD as well as the flow of the drain and can assure you our Maintenance team is as a precaution now checking the entire hotel to ensure that especially these systems are fully functional. I am however very disappointed with the comments you overheard from a couple of our team members and can assure you this is a very isolated incident. Our team work diligently to ensure a warm and engaged atmosphere for our guests which is at the core of our ethos.

I do sincerely hope that we will see you again soon, and have the opportunity to show you how great The Milestone Hotel truly is.
