“Just perfect for us”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Why this hotel works for us:

-Fairly central, very close to tube

-You can get a very quiet room which is very important to us. We got a quiet room on our first visit, but on our second were given a room overlooking the train tracks. After talking with the someone downstairs about this, they brought out a special map they use for assigning rooms with some sides marked "train side" and some sides marked "quiet side"....clearly we wanted the latter which we were able to get. I did ask for a quiet room in my reservation request, but next time I will even more clearly specify that we want a high floor floor room not on the train side. There is little or no between-room sound, except any noise people might make in the hallways, which is usually pretty limited.

-Always seems to be cheaper than comparable hotels when you book online and pre-pay. Not sure why this is the case, but I hope it stays this way.

-Beds are comfortable

-Can have a rather nice view, depending on where your room is.

-Yes, the wifi charge is a bit much, but with the typical savings on the rooms here, it works out.

Room Tip: If quiet is important, specify this and ask for a high floor room not on the "train side"

It is expensive to travel and expensive to eat and drink in London, and I want to feel like I am in London and not somewhere in middle America. This hotel is not a London experience. I am also astounded that they have the nerve to charge 25 pounds (about 42 dollars) for two days of Wi-Fi. Really!? Our room was very minimal - - absolutely no London or British charm. - The only plus is that the hotel has a gym and is not excessively dirty.

It is obvious that the hotel meets the three requirements in British real estate: location, location, location... And that's it. I'd say the building is ugly with a '70s look and it's strangely placed with its rear to the main street.
I stayed here only for a night and I didn't care too much about the room, but I have to say that they had to put a flat screen tv as an old one wouldn't fit in the room and they had to install a sliding door to the bathroom as a normal one wouldn't have enough space to open.
The room looks quite old with cheap restoration. Mine didn't have a refrigerator and I could see the dirt behind the furniture where it had to be installed. I didn't miss the refrigerator as I usually unplug them to stop the noise they make during the night... But I guess it had to be there.
The window curtains have a strange smell, like they've never been washed since the hotel was built.. And so look the windows.

The water pressure might be considered good in some central African villages but it was difficult to shower with so little water...
My room was at 16 floor facing the street but the traffic noise was not too strong during the night.

The breakfast is fair (I wouldn't consider it "excellent") with a cook preparing on demand omlets but the selection of food is rather poor, compared with similar hotels. The tea is good.

The hotel is suitable if you don't plan to spend too much time in the room. Location is quite good, closed to metro station and walking distance for several attractions and also offers good access to business district.

We stayed in this holiday Inn on Friday 30th May. There is a long reception desk to check in, but it was really busy and there was a queue building up. A member of staff from the lobby led us through to the business check in desk which is hidden out of site. Which we had caught his name. This was a nice little touch and quickly improved our first impression. We stayed in an executive room and upgraded to the lounge access - certainly not worth it for us. However, if you like bottled beer or wine it could be money well spent. The canapies were tasty too.

The hotel is huge! We were on the fourth floor and whilst in our room we never heard another sound which we were pleased with. The bathroom was tiny, but the pressure and water temperature were good and consistent. To save space the bathroom door slid open, rather than swing. The room was a decent size, although not as spacious as other executive suites we have stayed in with the Holiday Inn chain. It did make us wonder what size the standard room are. But, it's in London and comfortable enough.

We considered ordering room service but the menu was very limited. Breakfast is served on the first floor and had a fantastic selection. Even a little self-service pancake machine and made-to-order omelettes. Staff were very pleasant in there too.

Gloucester Road tube station is just a short walk from the hotel and serves the Piccadilly, District and Circle line so access around London is very good.

I am writing this review prior to our stay next week! We have booked to stay for 3 nights at this hotel next week, from Tuesday to Friday, but we always stay here on our frequent trips to London from Spain. By chance I looked at the online reviews tonight and was surprised to see some of the negative comments. How petty some people are! We love this hotel, the staff are all very friendly and normally recognise us, and welcome us back, the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms and we have never experienced anything but good service. It is absolutely ideal for us as my husband goes off to Business meetings all day and leaves me to enjoy some retail therapy! I can come back to the hotel and relax with a coffee and read or watch TV. After our stay I will write a review, but unless something has changed dramatically since our last visit, then I can only imagine that it will be a good one! Why is it that people are always so quick to point out the negatives, but never so quick to point out the positives? Even although we have stayed there whilst there have been tube strikes you can not blame the hotel for that! Looking forward to our visit next week.

This hotel is located one block from the Gloucester Tube Station. Just turn right when leaving the station, don't cross any streets, just follow the sidewalk around the corner and go one block.
The Gloucester tube station is on the Piccadilly Line which is the one that goes to all of the terminals at Heathrow. One can save a quite a lot of money taking the tube instead of a taxi. It is also just two stops from Heathrow and four or five stops from the West End (theater district). A few stops to Green Park which is in front of Buckingham Palace.

The hotel is within walking distance to the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Science Museum.

My only complaint is that wifi is not free. If you need to check emails etc, Starbucks and Burger King are across the street from the Gloucester Tube station and both have free wifi.

The hotel is unremarkable but is clean, beds are comfortable, & bathrooms are very nice.

Stayed here to attend an event at Royal Albert Hall, which was about 15 minute walk, so no need for taxi's. Room was nice but bit noisy (3rd floor at the front of the building), but clean ad facilities were available (tea & coffee etc). we had breakfast included and this was very good, with plenty of choice of cooked or continental. didn't have any issues but check in went smoothly so no need for any other dealings with the staff.

Room Tip: a higher room or at the back may not be as noisy
