Positives first, clean, large room, mostly friendly staff. Breakfast OK but no more.
It was possible to leave luggage before check-in and after check-out.

Negatives. Got a room in the basement, and the nearby underground was noisy and the furniture rattled when the trains passed. Same for the floors above, did not try higher up.

No elevator.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the upper floors if you consider staying here.

I have been commuting to London daily which is an exhausting additional 5 hours on top of my working day so decided to stay in the City Mon-Thurs. I checked into the Shakespeare Hotel on Mon 18th November 2013 for four nights having found a late deal online. This is a great hotel, in a great location. My single room was warm, comfortable, perfectly clean and welcome retreat after a long day working in the city. The staff were wonderful and I will stay here again :)

Excellent location, wonderful service! Very friendly. I reccomend this hotel to everyone.
The room very clean.

The only Negative thing: wifi price too high! It work for only one device. [25£ for 7 days]

We were in 3.

My husband and I stayed in London for three nights. We chose the Shakespeare hotel because of the price and the location (near the tube, market, pubs, attractions). The room was so small, we couldn't unpack. Alfter climbing 4 set of stairs, which was ok because they said there's no lift, we arrived with all our bags upstairs, had to separete the clothes we wanted and leave then bags downstairs in the reception. The walls are pretty thin and a student group was travelling and staying in the rooms next and above us. First night, we complained at the reception, after 30 minutes, silence. Second night, same problem, but this time the rudest recepcionist ever said that if it continued for a third nit, they would charge the student group our stay and we wouldn't have to pay anyting. After a very very long discussion, they changed us to a room downstairs. We could even have our bags with us this time.
So, it is cheap, but not as cheap as the service you get. Gpod for the location. That's it. I've stayed in hostels much more friendly than this. Trust me, I wasns't expecting anything great, just a quiet, clean, simple room. Don't stay there.

Excellent location, wonderful service and an extraordinary breakfast make up for the tired rooms, lumpy bed and lack of lift. Definitely value for money. We would recommend for a family as we were travelling with 5.

Stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of October. Hotel has a great location, only a short walk from Paddington train and underground stations. Area has lots of restaurants, and small shops to get drinks and candy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel looks better from the outside than the inside. We stayed on the third floor in building one, hotel consists of a few houses that have been turned into one with entry between them on the first floor. No lift. We had a small three bed room, and I mean three single beds, room had a small bathroom with shower. Room was clean, and beds made, towels changed every day. The beds were our biggest problem with this hotel, as they were far from comfortable, we woke up with sore backs every morning. Breakfast consisted of toast, belgium waffels, cereal and cookies. We only tried this one morning. We could have paid more and gotten full English breakfast. You can hear trains or the underground frequently, but you get used to this after a while. Conclusion: Hotel was worth what we paid, location great, especially if you fly into Heathrow. But because of the beds we will try somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Get a room with bathroom, some have this in the stairways. If you have problem with stairs, get a ro...
