“Cozy, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

I stayed here for a week at the beginning of December. This hotel's location is perfect as it's smack in the middle of Soho. It is walking distance to a million theatres, restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. The staff are friendly and helpful. My room was on the top floor, and there's no lift, but the staff helped carry up all my bags. Since it's such an old building, the stairs are a little lopsided and can be a bit treacherous. I loved the old fashioned feel of the room, and it felt very cozy - especially in December. There's a lounge on the ground floor which I only briefly visited, but it also felt very warm. If you're looking for a slightly old fashioned experience with great service and don't mind small quirks, this is a great place to spend a week.

This is definitely my first hand choice when returning to London. Perfect location with walking distance to so many of the sights, yet so quiet we could sleep with our windows open. Excellent personal service, warm and caring British historical yet relaxed atmosphere. We simply couldn't ask for anything more. Cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: We got a room towards the courtyard so quiet we could sleep with the windows open though located in...

This boutique hotel provided a wonderful stay for a weekend. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Admittedly it can be a little noisy outside on a Saturday evening but the atmosphere inside the hotel is relaxing and the rooms cosy and comfortable. If you have been to the Rookery, this is a similar experience. Well worth a try.

Room Tip: All are different and individual. Check pictures on website or ring to ask for details.

If you are visiting the West End this is an ideal boutique hotel. Just up the street from Ronnie Scotts jazz club and a stones throw from Shaftsbury Avenue. The rooms are comfortable (don't expect spacious) and breakfast is delivered to your room and can be served in the library. The is a very comfortable, traditionally furnished lounge with an honesty bar. Overall a great place to relax.

Room Tip: Try for a room that can be accessed by lift

Whilst the Staff we encountered @ this hotel were pleasant, the decor was ye olde world beautiful & the location ideal you still walk away a little disappointed. I get the impression that because the majority of guests that stay here are very wealthy the hotel has forgotten how to deliver value for money. It's not cheap, which is fine - it's Central London and houses some antique furniture but you really don't get much for the expense. This perhaps was best summed up by the experiences we had when arriving & leaving. Upon arrival we were offered a cup of tea (at a premium cost) which took forever to come taking the gloss off the first impression. When departing they were engaged in a conversation about charging another guest £20 for a bowl of fruit. If they were really offering value for money the tea would be complimentary on arrival as would a bowl of fruit in your room. Simple things make a difference and can be achieved given the cost of the rooms per night. The room itself was clean and again with impressive furniture and historical design. Sadly, despite the glazing efforts we had a street side room and the noise of smashing bottles as the street sweepers tidied up from Saturday night was very disturbing.

Stayed for a long weekend and it was a positive and enjoyable. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The location is amazing being close to Oxford Street (and the other famous shopping streets), theatres, tube stations and numerous places to eat. The rooms are characterful. Ours came with a four poster bed and a lovely deep bathtub. The fittings and features feel historical but not old or worn. The theme continues through the hotel, into places like the library. My partner was taken with some of the classical books that were on offer to read.

Only three things detracted from the experience. Breakfast not included or a restaurant of any kind was a shame (but we did know this going it so not surprised). The second was that tea & coffee facilities were not provided in room. Again we knew this but didn't know you got charged when asking for tea from reception, under the wrong impression it was included. The last point was the very limited storage available in the room. With a longer stay we would never have managed to unpack all our cloths. As it was we still had to keep a number of things in our suitcase.

Overall only very minor problems for a great hotel. Still would stay there again

The room was tiny the door hit the wardrobe every time we came in, there was no shower and the toilet didn't flush, no tea or coffee in the room it was so hot in November had to open the window all night so noisy . All this for £280 with the option of breakfast ( croissant) in bed for a further £22 . We went to Bill's instead. In short a bargain if you are a rich person under 5 ft tall with no appetite and a need to boil over in a narrow bed, bargain
